Being in a "bottom" house

by:

Im not talking about SDT but the others. How different is it really? I want a good social experience, sisterhood and just to really enjoy my experience. I dont have really any connections. Average looks and pretty much average everything else. Like the amount and quality of swaps and date parties.

I think it’s important for PNMs to remember that ALL houses have the same social events... EVERY house has swaps, date parties, and formals. You will be given the opportunity to have a fun and fulfilling social life in ANY house, that’s why there’s such an emphasis on choosing a house based on your real feelings as opposed to ranks.

So I’m an alum!

I was PC’16! I had three prefs and got my third choice. As horrible as it sounds, it turned out so perfectly.

It ended up the best house for me! Just remember, it really doesn’t matter. There’s way too much focus on ranks.

Also, for OOR PNMs, are you sure you want to be in a house with so many cliques from girls who knew each other their whole lives?

Funny, there’s a group of girls from my local area at Bama and they all went to the house I landed in.

Best of luck! Enjoy the process!

The reality is the majority of universities have 1 or 2 sororities that are the bottom houses, and will take pretty much anyone who breathes to get to campus total. This creates a kind of weird mix of girls, and these houses just genuinely aren't very strong.

This is NOT the case at Alabama. Every panhellenic house is selective in some areas. Even SK, a house that is new and trying to grow, will not take girls who don't care about school, are rude, etc. That means that there really aren't weak or bottom houses. Alabama's bottom houses would easily be middle tier anywhere else.

Laughing at how naive PNMs are about Bama srats and rankings. They believe GR and do not realize most houses have been on campus for decades and have plenty of PNMs coming in that have sisters, mothers, and grandmothers that had the time of their lives in these houses and have been sharing love for these houses for years. Every house has plenty of PNMs that really want that specific house. Every house has to make cuts, a lot of cuts. I am amazed how high school grads convince themselves they are too good for srats at Bama that have been organizing swaps and parties for generations and do not appreciate that every house has a very well built social program here! Finally, every house is unbelievably gorgeous, especially when compared to other campuses. I’m so shocked when PNMs, who have never had a sorority experience, are sad when asked them to join a srat because it is ranked lower than another house. Here it is... when you get a bid from a srat, realize that house WANTED you the most. Other houses did not want you as much, so you slid down and off their bid list. The stat you get a bid from is awesome and 400 women picked YOU! Be happy, no matter which house you get.

I'm in a "bottom" house. Wouldn't change a thing. Go where you feel a connection. IRL no one talks about "tiers."

Bumping this again for any PMN who is focusing on artificial ranks on this site. Go where you meet the people you connect with and if you get dropped for the house you thought was the one for you, stay open minded and trust the process. There is no "bad house" at Bama. It is what you make it! Sometimes the lower ranked houses will provide you the most opportunities!
