Who requires rec letters?

by: transferhoney

Hey y'all!

I'm transferring in after completing my first year of college, and am planning to rush this upcoming fall. Which sororities require letters of recommendation?

All of the sororities that goes through formal recruitment requires them. It’s a instant drop from any of the sororities if you don’t have one

this isn’t true! almost all sororities take recs (phi mu doesn’t this year!) and it’s considered “extra credit” butttt it’s a great thing to have so i would definitely recommend getting one or two for as many as you can! can’t wait to have you here :)

Oh thanks for that! The Panhellenic website there’s a section where there’s all of sororities that require them, it seems like all

if you can get 2 then that’s best! but if you can only get 1 that’s totally fine. and if you can’t get one at all, it’s okay!

I got dropped first day from one because my mom wasn’t that familiar with them, tbh I wasn’t that interested until I met them, and only got one rec for that one because it’s not that well known elsewhere. She is positive that it never got sent in because I wasn’t dropped from anyone else. Don’t assume people are actually writing all your recs. People get busy and forget. I had like 4 for most of mine, especially certain ones, plus I was a legacy for one with great grandmother, whole family, etc. That one I literally had 10 for it. If I could give any advice, it would be get a lot of recs even if you think you won’t be interested!!!! You may be surprised who you like when you get to school. I did end up exactly where I wanted so it worked out but it could have gone very wrong.

The entire process I only got dropped from the ones I didn't get rec's for. I didn't think it would matter and didn't go out of my way. I got my top choice from the start but I had several rec's for that one.

Will getting several recs for the sorority your interested in increase your chances?

If you actually go to the website you will see that Panhellenic doesn’t require them but each chapter has their own regulations. Get one or two per house. Don’t get 4-10 like others on here are saying. Try to get them from women you know. It’s not that hard just talk to everyone you know: Teachers, coaches, relatives, your parents friends, people you used to work for, babysit for, parents of your friends, etc. Taking the time to get recs shows you’re serious about joining Greek life and gives the house a bit more info about you. Familiarize yourself with the chapters we have and THEN go to your local alumnae Panhellenic and fill in the ones you don’t have.

My aunt was a Pi Phi OOS and she says Pi Phi doesn’t do recs anymore, starting this year. Chapters aren’t supposed to accept them. Is this true at Bama?

They are voting on that at their convention at the end of June. It’s not official yet. Recs should be in before that so I would just go ahead and get them done early and give the chapter time to review them in case it passes.
