Old row / new row - Newbie question
by: 2025I am an incoming freshman and am reading about this Old Row / New Row business. What does this mean?

If you're talking about sororities, I can help. It depends on if you're oos or instate. OR is mainly girls from small towns or suburbs in Alabama. Certain sororites favor girls from certain towns so they're pretty cliquey. The NR sororities are more open to urban girls and out-of-state girls, so they're more diverse and more open. The unhappy girls are the oos ones who feel like the OR sororities are the "top tier" so they desperately want to be in an OR sorority. If they do get an OR sorority they find they don't fit in and end up dropping because they don't have any friends. If you're from oos you'll notice that the OR top houses are ones that are bottom houses in every other state and the NR houses are on top. Alabama is just like that. Hope this helps.

Some of the OR houses are good in some other places. For sure though generally most of the OR sororities are bottom or nonexistent houses in most places. There isn't any such thing as good or bad nationally because there is a lot of variation. But generally the OR houses are not very desired in most places.

Glad to read this all before recruitment. Interesting that is was mentioned that these UA old row are bottom tiers in other states. That is accurate where I live. I am not focused on a particular house, just one with a good vibe and fun girls.
