pnm video for rush
by: heyyhow are houses even cutting girls from this pre recorded video? can you really tell anything about a person enough to know whether they’d fit in ur chapter or not just from a less than 60 second intro video? i feel like this will screw with a lot of people’s rush experiences because there’s no possible way to get a full grasp on someone’s personality from a minute long video

Honestly most houses aren’t gonna drop as many girls after open house as they did years past. Open house drops will be based on grades/gpa, involvement, rec letters, social media, and if you have a reputation. It’s too late to do anything about your grades or involvement in sports/clubs/volunteer work, but def get all your recs (try for 1 for every house), keep your social media clean and delete any bad photos, and make sure you have a good reputation going into rush. Don’t start fights w other pnms on groupme and stuff. We can sometimes hear about that stuff.

I’m real sorry to tell you this but first round is usually girls getting through that houses have already picked out and/or grade cuts. We just are finally realizing how pointless the first round of rush is and saying a cute little intro video is equal to a supposedly equal opportunity to meet girls in the houses and have them “get to know you”.
So no the video isn’t what screws you but it’s DDD gonna be the reason so many mobile mamas blame their sweet pea not getting the invites back that they wanted.

Houses already know who they’re cutting first round long before rush starts. My house already has you on our cut list of:
1. You’re below a 3.2 GPA
2. Bad reputation (sleeping around, mean girl)
3. Questionable social media (alcohol, smoking, sl_tty)
Philanthropy is the first round where we’re really trying to get to know you.

many girls trying to rush this year don’t have the best grades. if houses are seriously all cutting girls immediately that don’t have 3.2+, might be hard to meet quota. what about the houses that take a few grade risks even if they’re under the “recommended gpa” that house lists on greek chic. those girls that may sometimes get into a house as grade risk have no chance

You can go on the Panhellenic website and it gives detailed instructions for making the pnm intro video. Good idea to start thinking about what you want to say and have an idea now- check and watch old pnm intro videos too. We watch these and they matter. Good to submit them earlier and not wait until last minute

The truth is you need to be able to make an honest assessment of how connected you are and then where you stand academically and with your leadership. Most pnms are going to be somewhere in the middle. Then you need to manage your expectations going into rush.
The best thing someone told me is that even though there are 17 chapters- you only will be invited to rush at best half of them, and you don’t know which ones until philanthropy day.
The average pnm will get 6 to 8 invites on philanthropy. These are the ones to now get to know and to be enthusiastic for.
The problem with being on GR is it tends to put chapters into three tiers, with everyone focusing too much on the top. Those chapters are strong recruiting chapters and they have to release pnms very early on, and focus on the ones they know well or have certain attributes they need.
Focus on the middle and lower tiers before rush, to find a few that you think might be interesting to you also. Keep an open mind. All the chapters at Alabama are good and the way rush is designed is to give all of them a good chapter of new members- so they continue to thrive.
Last piece of advice is that people only care about your “letters” for 5 minutes after bid day… after that it’s all the effort that you make to get involved in your chapter and make friends and build your relationships.
Keep an open mind and realize that getting a bid to any one of these chapters is a huge accomplishment
