the reason people hate on KD and Kappa so much

Absolutely true and I agree that these two sororities have great membership. I think the reason people pick them apart or have them lower in the rankings is because of pnm desirability. Most pnms after reading this site or talking to current students at the University know that these houses do this, and completely remove these houses off of their radar. Also, there aren’t a lot of OOS pnms that come in wanting either of these (unless they are from NOLA > a lot of pnms from NOLA go Kappa). If an OOS pnm IS ONLY looking for an old row house, they usually aim more for AXO, Tri Delt, or AGD.

The problem with your post is that PCs are too big for this strategy to work any more. They go after the girls they know from their hometowns, but in the end, the “top” in-state and other “known” pnms scatter all over old row. KKG and KD definitely get their fair share of them, but they have to fill in the rest with girls they don’t know and haven’t tried very hard to get to know. Meanwhile, other OR houses have tried harder to get to know OOS and OOR pnms so their PCs are stronger overall.

I think KKG has figured this out better than KD has but this is the reason that they are slipping. Their PCs are too uneven and there’s too much of an in-crowd and an out-crowd.

they can’t fill an entire PC with these girls though and they lose a lot the girls they’re rushing hard to ChiO and DDD. The PCs end up being half the girls they wanted and then a bunch of randoms.

Kappa is miles ahead of KD on this. Kappa gets a lot of big city non-AL southern girls. KD is mostly small town AL with mobile and Mtn Brook as their main “it” girls.

My old roommate that just graduated was in one of these houses. She was from far OOS. The instate girls have their “tops” list and those 100 girls are the ones they want before recruitment starts. During workweek, they know those tops and their legacy girls. Then, the OOS girls can add their “tops” to their list. So, instate tops, legacy, OOS tops in that order. They get the girls they want, but some were definitely hyped up more than others. She understood the reasoning that instate girls will support the UA chapter while legacy and OOS girls will support them nationally.

KKG is okay but KD is completely irrelevant now. Neither can compare to DDD, XO and AXO in terms of which houses the majority of pnms are interested in during rush.

No hate whatsoever - I know so many girls who I adore in these houses. But jeez this whole thread is just so complicated, I couldn't stand this stuff during rush if I was in one of these houses! My "lower" NR house just takes girls with good grades and who we really liked talking to/feel will genuinely fit in, it's so simple! It creates a decent sisterhood where we all get along and have fun together, none of this connections and hometown crap

They have a target pnm list picked out (all houses do), but they get fewer and fewer of them with every passing year and then have to scramble. So they end up with a LOT more fillers thna they used to

Ok I’m sorry, but unless you are from Mountain Brook or a few other areas in Alabama, no one goes in wanting either of these as their top choice. It’s just as simple as that and there’s no problem with this. But anyone who says that Kappa and KD take “top” pnms from the other competing houses is wrong. We all know that other old row rouses and even some new row houses are far more desired when looking at ALL of the pnms!!!! In state and OOS!! There was not one girl who I knew from OOS (and even in state) who had Kappa or KD as their top choice entering rush.
