A lot of great girls are getting cut. System seems flawed. Average girls seem to prevail. Pretty frustrated with rush this year.

That was a rude comment. I have 8 invites this round, majority old row. I am not average. I just didnt go into rush with preconceived ideas of where I "deserved to be" and that I am too good for others.

But the fact that you just mentioned how you have mostly "old row" just goes to show you have a few preconceived ideas yourself sweetie.

Everyone knows what the old row sororities are so that's not a preconceived notion, it's just a fact. She never said "old row sororities are better" or "new row sororities are easier to get in" so don't jump down her throat.

"average girls" = southern girls

By: maybe
by: Not trueAug 15, 2013 3:53:03 PM

I'm southern and am considered the "perfect" candidate and I've had a pretty tough time. There are too many southern girls to compete with. I think the OOS girls or out of Birmingham girls have it so much easier. There are too many coming from where I'm from

maybe those girls you think are average are 4.0 with wonderful and positive personalities
average is never the word to use when describing a person, everyone has something special about them. and i am not trying to sound like a pollyanna but you don't even know these girls so why are you judging them.

We've been judging girls all week! Get real. Of course we can't possibly get to know all of these girls and their personal story. That's exactly why so many good girls are getting cut! Playing it safe without really getting to know a person. Would you prefer the word dull?

Any girl who gets a bid on bid day has worked her ass off for it and is beyond average

You are way too politically correct. It's tough on all the girls that go through rush, but some are much more harshly judged than others. There are many girls that fly under the radar and get through. Some girls have a bullseye on them. That is the truth.

You do know it takes more than looks to be in a sorority, right? We do like the whole package. And despite what this board says we aren't shallow enough to take girls simply based on looks. And these girls you deem "average" probably have something outstanding that you are unaware of: like talents, connections, leadership, legacy, a bff in the house, volunteer work, really anything! You sound like the kind of girl that will end up somewhere you saw "beneath" you before rush, and will now spend your time bashing other houses to make up for it because they cut you.

ADDITIONALLY: just because you might be the total package doesn't mean everyone will want you or not cut you. There are TONS of girls with your same qualifications, and at the end of the day for some reason: be it money to pay dues, in house friends, conversations, do they think you like them the best, involvement in sorority and on campus, literally could be hair color, they had to cut someone. But some other chapter chose to keep you instead, so don't you think you owe it that group of girls that wants YOU to give them the same respect?? Sorry girls, but a lot of you PNMs are feeling entitled, maybe from what you've read here, and you need to GROW UP and be GRATEFUL.

Just worry about yourself and your own rush. There's so many reasons why girls do or don't get cut and though you may think it's flawed, its just part of the process.

"Seems to be" seems to consider herself "that" special snowflake.

I do think I'm pretty special, but I am NOT a PNM. I have already gone through rush and I am now on the other side. Just some of my personal observations. Carry on!

anytime you see the term "special snowflake" you can bet it is an alum from a board called greekchat where they sit around and act hateful to each other all the time while they're pretending to be friends. Like greekrank for geezers.

i am in college, in a top tier house, and my beauty is was above average. and we all go on greek chat. have you seen how many views there are to each thread? Most of the question about rush procedure and all the little ins and outs college girls dont even know. it is the alums who do a lot of the computer work etc behind the scenes. the yanswer the questions because they know this stuff backwards and forwards and the rest of us just read. occasionally college girls post but most of us dont. we go on greek chat way more than greek rank. you guys are wrong again

Greek Chat is the best site out there for things like this. I know someone who has met some of the members outside of it. They're great and know so much, plus some have good connections to sororities, or to some really influential alumnae. I know two who have contacted chapter advisers for girls rushing at Ole Miss. Just put in a nice word and said they'd be good sisters. Don't know if it was what made a difference, but those girls got bids to top houses. Also know people who have gotten help with their recs from some women over there. Sometimes they'll get fired up, but it's usually because someone has gotten out -of-line, like posting things they know nothing about, or coming across as some arrogant little PNM who thinks every sorority is going to kill for her, or just asks really dumb like questions about member selection, like people are really going to tell them. Really, it's a good site for sorority and fraternity info. Plus, it's moderated really closely. They wouldn't put up with a lot of the people on this site.

...I have heard that term used before during recruitment to describe girls who exude entitlement/attitude with nothing to back it up. Somebody probably picked it up from Greek Chat (which does have some interesting stuff on it).

Actually the special snowflake comment is very common on blogs and chats. It comes from Fight Club, the movie/book. As the character says, "You are not special. You are not a unique and beautiful snowflake." It just means put all your participation trophies on the shelf and EARN something by not expecting everything to be handed to you. Sure recruitment isn't perfect and some crosscuts and unfortunate things occur. But it usually works out for the best and you just have to accept that you don't know all the ins and outs or how it functions on the other side of being a PNM.

Greek Chat is not Greek Rank for geezers, because unlike here, rankings and running a house down are not allowed there. I’ve learned a lot there.
