fraternties

by:

I'm looking for a frat to pledge down here at UA but I'm not sure which one would be right for me so I was hoping I could get some advice on which houses to look at. I'm mixed (white/black) and am from North Carolina so I guess old row is already out the picture if the stereotypes are true haha. I'm not looking for an all back frat because I'd feel out of place...although I'm mixed I've never really grown up in a all black environment so that's not for me. I don't really care that much about being in the frat that party's the most...I'm more interested in the brotherhood and having new friends for the big move and some service but of course I do like to have fun and party once in a while but it's not my main concern in looking for a fraternity. I was big on community service in high school and I was the president of the FBLA (future business leaders of America) in high school. So if anyone has any suggestions on which frats to look at that would be greatly appreciated!

Look at the responses for the post Rushing Fraternities by Roll Tide. Those answers all apply to your questions as well. You will find a house that is a good match, but you should contact the rush chairs today. I think this is all explained in that post. Good luck

If you only want to party once in a while then maybe an IFC fraternity isn't for you. Typically in an IFC fraternity you'll be partying on a regular basis. You may want to check into fraternities in your major/college as those are more centered around academics and service.

As a member of a sorority at Alabama, I want to apologize for some of the rude responses to your post. I doubt these people even attend UA since most students here are helpful and friendly. I'm sure you are aware of this from any campus tours you may have taken. But you will find a house you like, you just need to be very proactive and start contacting rush chairs immediately. On UA IFC's website all this info is provided. And I agree with the above comment that you should read the post Rushing Fraternities by Roll Tide. There are some good responses. And just a helpful suggestion: at many southern schools, especially UA, its kinda rude and somewhat taboo to say "frats". Just say fraternities instead and you will be fine. Good luck rushing and welcome to Bama!

Sig Tau is a new fraternity on our campus. They have like 3 black black members out of about 70 guys and they are doing just fine so that's one to look into. Also, I think Delta Sig has a black member and they have a pretty good rep on campus. I recommend checking out the IFC page and contacting the rush chairs.
