fraternity rush starts now! don't wait!

by: Bama

Rush is over for all of the better fraternities before mid-summer. You need to start now! Each fraternity takes only 40-50 guys in their pledge class and they fill up fast. Target the better ones by going to the ua.edu website and searching for "greek grade reports" and looking at the Fall 2018 fraternity rankings. They are listed by GPA, but it also gives the size in number of members, as well as number of pledges. With few exceptions, the bigger fraternities, over 140 members, are all in the top half of grades. Without throwing stones, there's potential toxicity in low GPA houses. Then go to the IFC website, alabamaifc.com, and look for contacts at each house. Some info is outdated. Also look at the online rush brochure. It has pictures of their houses and info on in-state and out-of-state percentages. Cross check the grade/size report with the IFC info. Now make up a target list. If you're OOS you'll obviously have a better chance in high percentage OOS houses. In general, "Old Row" is heavy in-state and you'll need connections, and "New Row", even though they've been here 100 years or more, is more open to out-of-state. Fill out the online interest form on each fraternity's website. You probably won't hear back, but do it anyway. Text and call the rush chairman. Be pleasantly persistent. You really need to get face-to-face, ASAP! If you're an exceptional guy, they're going to want you. But they need to meet you, probably more than once. Don't ever go on a campus visit without arranging to meet them at that time. Don't wait for Fall rush! If you want in a good to decent frat, start NOW. Hopefully you'll get a bid in April or May.
