why are northerners and minorities so worried for?
by: Well manneredI always see on this site a nervous PNM asking the Greek community here what there chances are of getting bids if they know they don't appear as a typical Greek member at UA. If you guys are so worried, why don't you just join a Greek scene that is laid back. I mean I never had to worry about this when I rushed and I wouldn't put myself in a situation where I'm scared that I won't get a bid.

There's plenty of girls in sororities at Alabama who are from all over the country. sororities aren't an Alabama thing or a southern thing
And there's plenty of people who come from schools/areas with diversity and they're able to relate to people as individuals
If race is how you determine whether you relate to someone, then I feel sorry for you.

These minorities have a lot of reasons why they want to join a traditionally white sorority or fraternity. Maybe they had white parents. Maybe they came from money and always fit in better with whites. However if I was black and wanted to be greek, I would choose a school other than UA. Plain and simple.

FYI a lot of Alabama's sororities were founded in the North. Y'all didn't invent the "sorority"; y'all just perfected it. Alpha Chi, AGD, AOPi, Alpha Phi, DDD, DZ, Gamma Phi, Theta, KKG, and Pi Phi all originated in the North. Northern PNMs have family members and friends who have been a part of sororities, so they're interested too.
