private schools

Will coming from a private school help during rush? Or do sororities overlook the whole private/ public high school reference?

If you're from Alabama, there aren't as many highly respected public schools. Mainly because Alabama's education system isn't very good at the high school level. There are some public schools that aren't frowned upon; however, if you're from, say Montgomery, it isn't going to look good if you went to a public school that isn't a magnet school. However, if you're from Mountain Brook, you're probably fine having gone to public school. It really does depend more on the school itself than whether it was public or private.

There are plenty of excellent public schools in Alabama. There are plenty of excellent private schools in Alabama. We know which are which. We are also familiar, via our alumnae, with excellent public and private schools around the country.
For the most part, it's more how you did in the school you attended.
Unless, of course, you attended a really crappy school.

That was my point. We know where the good public schools are, so you won't be hurt so much if you attended those schools and did well. However, we also know where the not as good public schools are, so that may hurt some.

The public schools in Hoover and Mountain Brook are a heck of a lot better than the private schools
