deferred recruitment
by: ?Do you think any schools in the SEC would ever switch to deferred recruitment?

Ole Miss had to go to something like that a few years back; they now rush a month into school in late September. When it was held earlier, so many girls would just pack up and leave school if they didn't get the right house. Their daddies would pull up to the dorms with trucks and trailers the day after bid day and move them out and that would be that. I knew a girl who lost her roommate like this. Poof. Gone.

nah. Because new members wouldn't join until the spring, you'd only be able to be active a max of 7 semesters vs 8. Each chapter would lose literally hundreds of thousands of dollars by doing deferred recruitment, and trust me they need the money to pay for the $13-15 million dollar mansions so dues aren't even higher than they already are.

Having been at a school where recruitment went from first semester (not before school but about a month in) to second semester, I can give some pros and cons:
Pros:
many PNMs at that school didn’t come in to the university knowing what Greek life was at all, or what it really was aside from movies. Deferred rush meant girls realized what Greek life was and that they wanted to join. We also had a lot of sophomores Rush when it was fall because they didn’t realize what a good thing Greek life can be until it was too late to do it their freshman year
PNMs get more established on campus and make wider connections. They find activities they like, build their resumes, meet actives, and understand the demands of college life so they’re better prepared for adding Greek life into it
PNMs can see the chapters for who they really are. If you come for just orientation, only read GR, and are on campus for a few weeks, you might only see “hot chapters” and “bad chapter,” instead of realizing there are smart girls in “party chapters” and the pretty girls you saw at a frat party might actually not be so nice since it’s hard to fake for a whole semester.
Cons:
PNMs can get really overwhelmed first semester without an immediate structure set in place to support them. With rush, they can walk in the first day of classes and see sisters, know who to go to for help, and make an easier transitions to college life with a group of people in place to help you. By not having a chapter, many of the PNMs first semester at my old school we’re overwhelmed since it’s not a state school so they didn’t have hometown friends and weren’t from nearby. This probably won’t be as big of a deal at Alabama, but something to consider with OOS students.
Tent talk. There’s way more time for girls to hear rumors they wouldn’t have otherwise heard if they had just jumped into recruitment
Dirty rushing. Almost impossible to enforce a no-contact period for a whole semester.
Finances. Like someone said, one less semester of dues and philanthropy help.
Overall, I don’t love deferred recruitment since i’m A traditionalist but Bama won’t likely ever change to deferred so it’s nbd.

And they will sue when the grades are awful because of the distraction of defered recruitment; they still didn’t get in the desired house because of “dirty rushing”; and slander because girls had time to develop “campaigns” against girls they didn’t like.
Vaguely remeber a slander lawsuit regarding recruitment making the news, where vicious and awful rumors were circulated about a girl by members of a competing house.
There is no preventing lawsuits. \n\n\n\n\n
