grades matter

by:

Here is a breakdown of the "published" sorority grades averaged over 6 semesters (DG for 3). This should help clarify which sororities put great emphasis on grades. Note: I am not saying who has the smartest girls; I am saying that GPA does matter to certain sororities.

ACO 3.50
CO 3.48
AGD 3.41
PM 3.39
ADP 3.380
DDD 3.378
AOP 3.367
KD 3.34
PBP 3.32
DZ 3.27
KAT 3.243
KKG 3.238
DG 3.08
GPB 3.05
ZTA 3.03
AP 2.94

PNMs you need to review this! If a chapter "you think" you very much desire at this point has a higher GPA than you currently have now, you may be finding your new home somewhere other than what you "currently think".

So if you had a 4.9 GPA (out of 5) in high school, would you have more of a chance of getting into the sororities with the highest GPAs?

I have no idea. I am just giving facts. All sororities want their members to maintain a 3.0. If you are a PNM and you begin "rush" with 3.0, you should be in good shape "grade wise" to join any sorority. I think all the sororities want girls with high GPAs, and some may want only girls with higher than 3.0 GPAs. But, I think it boils down to more than just the GPA and several factors are taken into consideration, one being are you comfortable with them and are they comfortable with you.

It's easy to have a high all around GPA for a house that has a lot of business majors and communications majors. Some houses don't have really high GPAs because they have a lot of girls in the Nursing and Engineering schools. I'm not pointing this out for any house I'm just saying that everyone should take these numbers with a grain of salt.

I agree. But there are several folks on this website that state the only "good" sororities are the ones with the high GPA. Or maybe they say that ZTA and AP are pretty, but stupid. Or maybe they phrase it another way. So the point is, although you can list it by GPA like I did, it is still "just" a ranking and doesn't take into account the entire picture. Thus with the "overall picture", ZTA and AP (having the lowest GPA) may not be the lowest house on the totem pole and by that same analysis, ACO and CO may not rank at the top. It is all a matter of opinion. I am sure the girls in all four of those sororities are happy and content girls.

If I have a 3.3 does that mean ill be dropped by DDD AOPI ADPi and even higher sororities or is there some flexibility since I'm not exactly a grade risk.

No, that is not what that means.

This is a great starting point for PNM's. everyone knows grades arent the sole determing factor but I think this gives PNMs a good idea of what is expected.

information! Thanks. Of course it would be hoped that DG and APhi will be looking for girls with higher GPA as they become more settled in. They are probably the ones with the most capacity for change if they play their cards right!

I've been studying with the wrong sororities.

There are numerous posts on sorority grades and people throwing shade on relative small differences in GPA averaged over 400 girls.

Why no posts on fraternity grades and rankings and similar accusations of “stupidity” aimed at collective GPAs of 3.0?

By comparison fraternity GPAs are very low.

You go girls! All of you girls!

Let's be truly honest here that so much more goes into the selection process than gpa. A high gpa might get you through the first round of cuts at many houses, but it surely won't keep you in the process. I second the post above that certain majors are way more difficult to keep a higher gpa. You can't compare the course rigor in a STEM major versus numerous other majors. Let's start supporting each other instead of tearing each other down over house gpa rankings.
