Phi Mu got KDs top pnm last year. She was connected beyond belief and DID HER OWN THING. Every year, girls who are the most well rounded choose to do the same and not just follow the dotted line.
Not everyone pledges bc of mama or for your dated version . . Sadly many do and end up excluded from cliquey pledge groups . Go where you fit is the best advice.

lol this is so wrong. kd lost top girls to kappa and ddd (and vice versa) but none of the girls who pledged phi mu were being rushed hard by kd. A top Tuscaloosa PNM did her own thing and went phi mu but she wasn’t kd’s top girl. And a legacy from Birmingham went phi mu but was not being rushed by kd.

They girl you are referring to was a huge legacy and connected beyond belief, but had a QR and the house was very divided on her. It was a big deal but I wouldn’t expect you to know. KD dropped her after the first day and Phi Mu saw their chance. Phi Mu- being tacky as usual- likes to make it sound like they stole “KD’s biggest legacy”- when in fact, all they did was pick up a girl with no where else to go. KD She did “her own thing” because she didn’t have a choice when her legacy house and almost every other house dropped her.

Really? You are really saying this? KD took legacies in ‘17 that everyone else dropped for QR and general unlikabililty.
KD let their top legacy in years slip through cracks a few years ago and it was pretty darn funny to see her do her own thing. Many pledges here who they just take, and not everyone aspires to be a rude, party house. They have no QR standards btw - maybe in writing but not in reality.
If you want to party but be more, there are options.

I don’t think anyone said that KD doesn’t struggle. Kd will continue to take in questionable girls simply bc of in house connections.

I swear I’m not a KD. I don’t have a dog in this fight, but I am in an OR house and we all cross rush with each other. I can promise you that KD does not lose many girls to Phi Mu. Although we all cross rush, those two houses are the most polar opposites and are going after different girls. Phi Mu loses a lot of girls to other houses, but I swear them and Alpha Chi live on this site and have tried to convince you all that they are in some elite tippy top tier of their own. They’re not. We all lose equal numbers of girls to each other. And we’re all going after different girls. So when you say “My house got the top pledge class,” it’s so subjective because my house may have gotten all the girls we wanted too. But they were different girls than you wanted, so to me, WE got the top pledge class. And to you, YOU did.

There are certainly girls that are on the radar of multiple OR houses from the get-go, and some houses will start rushing a girl just because they see another OR house rushing them.
But a lot of times houses are rushing and paying attention to completely different girls! Different houses are simply are connected to different PNMs by chance, legacy status, or having older girls go to the same high school.

KD is obsessed with getting MB... it’s pitiful. They overlook awesome girls in that pursuit and then don’t get the MB girls they wanted. They took legacies that no one else was interested in bc all they care about is MB.
If you want to party, KD is a good place to be. If you want to have more of a well rounded experience, look to some others.
Girls cut KD all the time before pref for other OR, and there are MANY sitting in Alpha Chi, DDD, Alpha Gam and Chi O who went to KD pref (even as legacies which means an automatic bid) and dropped KD. Future kappas don’t even struggle with the choice.
By the way you speak, I can tell you pre-date 1985 and don’t have a clue of how things really are for true top pnms (as in top all around girls).

There are girls sitting in every OR house that cut the other OR houses. It truly comes down to personal preference and there is not a single house that gets everyone they want. Each OR house loses some top PNMs every year. And some years go better than others. Not sure what your point is.

You sound a little bit fixated on KD for whatever reason..
The same could be said for chi o and jackson, kappa and mobile, ddd and Huntsville, etc etc etc.
if you have a full schedule, you have to drop houses. Of course there will be girls who pref KD and choose another house. Just like there are girls that pref XYZ house and pick KD.

Kappa is pretty party oriented I guess, but KD, DDD and XO are very involved on campus.

Y'all are ridiculous if you think one or two OR houses are above the others. They're all going after different girls with different interests and personalities from different places. There is not a single PNM that every single OR house wants. And just because a house has a bunch of legacies from other houses doesn't mean their legacy houses wanted them.

That was the OP's original point. AXOs and PMs (and esp their bored alum moms) stalk this site to create the impression that they are on a higher level than DDD, KD, KKG and XO when it's not true. So this thread is continually getting buried by the AXOs and PMs and brought back to the top by the other four.

Oh yes. Things have changed. Kd is now barely hanging on to relevance. AGD is middle tier now. The crowds of out of state and non legacy pnms are completely turning things around, the change has been happening for bout a half dozen years now, the old guard of kd kappa and Tridelt running the place with their mountain brook future housewives of America is long gone. Yes, things have changed.

So many more OOS PNMs now that there are more "top" houses than just the KD, DDD and KKG old guard. Those houses still do quite well, though. It's just that they aren't the only game in town.
