a little worried!

by: OutOfState

Hi I'm a girl who wants to rush next year at alabama. I've gotten at least 1 or 2 recs for each house and I have really good grades and lots of activities and all that. I was feeling pretty confident until I read online that out of state girls have a really hard time in recruitment just because they're out of state. Some people say that houses already have pledge classes mostly full with girls they know already. I just want to know if I even have a realistic chance! I think I can hold up a good conversation and everything... So should I be worried? Is there anything I can do to stand out? Thank you! :)

Being out-of-state will not keep you out of a sorority at Alabama! Want proof? Go to the website for Alabama's Greek Affairs. Look to the right under News and go to UA 2012 Sorority Pledges Announced. It's published for view and you can see for yourself just how many OSS's, from all over the country, pledged sororities at Bama.

I send lots of recs to Bama and advise PNMs -- one of the biggest rumors is that in-state girls from certain areas are the only ones who have a chance at any of the houses. Not, not true. Nearly every PNM I've sent recs in for has been OSS and they have ALL pledged houses. Some had smoother recruitments than others and everyone experienced cuts, but they all ended up in great houses for them. They did it "right" -- got their recs and kept open minds throughout the whole week. Recs, grades, open mind, looking for the best fit for YOU and putting your best foot forward -- you should have a happy outcome. Good luck!

You're fine. OOS MIGHT only keep you out of 1 or 2 chapters, and even they are opening up. MORE than 50% of UA students are OOS. The same follows for the sororities.
You've done your homework - good for you!
Now you can work on your outfits and your tan!
