Kinda depends on the year.

When I was a freshman almost none of the seniors in my sorority were engaged because not many of them were still in long-term relationships. But a LOT - maybe 20% - of the seniors my sophomore year were either engaged or planning to be engaged shortly after grad (usually waiting for their SO to have more money before buying the ring or whatever). I agree that it's super young (and expensive let's be real!!!) but to each their own.

A lot of the time it varies from house to house! In no way bashing anybody for their way of doing things.. if you found the one and you're ready to get engaged, that's awesome & if you aren't in that place in your life in college, that's awesome too! Both totally respectable, understandable decisions.

However, like I said, it is more common in certain houses.. some of those being:
AXO
XO
AGD

Less common but not unheard of:
AOPi
Phi Mu
DG

Rarely happens (correct me if I'm wrong please!):
KD
KKG
APhi
GPhi
DZ
DDD
ZTA
Pi Phi

also please let me know if I accidentally skipped anybody haha

Do any houses do the candlelighting ceremony for engagements or pinning? Does anyone get pinned anymore?

By: candlelighting?

I don’t think pinning really happens anymore but I think most sororities do candlelights. In my house it’s a big deal cause we rarely have girls get engaged (@hey had my house in the right category good job lol)

My freshman year we did have a candlelight for a girl who got lavaliered and they’re married now.

it's one thing to get engaged when you're a senior and about to graduate and you've been dating someone for a long time and it's another thing to get engaged when you're a sophomore and your only life experience has been a couple semesters of college. I know a girl in one of the "rarely happens" houses who got engaged first semester sophomore year and it just makes no sense to me. You're young, you're going to change a LOT over the next two years, and you can still be in a loving, committed relationship without being engaged. What's the point in being engaged for at least two years before you graduate and then get married if you'd be equally as committed without the ring? What do you have to prove? It just reads as insecure to me.
