rushing

I am OOS I have a 2.9 but I have a lot of extra activities and community service. What are my chances of
recieving a bid? Or should I just cut alabama out of the equation because I really want to pledge a sorority.

Bama's Panhellenic website says PNMs are strongly encouraged to have a 3.0 or above. You'll probably get heavy cuts, so just be ready. You'll be competing with about 2000 other women for sororities that can only bid a certain number. A whole lot of them are going to have much higher GPAs than you do, plus all the extra-curricular activities.

If you really, really want to be in a sorority, and there's not a reason related to your major that you're looking at Alabama, you might consider another school. There are lots of great schools that have active Greek Life, but aren't as crazy-competitive as the SEC. Your chances of getting a chapter you want will probably be much better.

You could go to Alabama and try. If it doesn't work out this fall, there will be other opportunities. They don't have formal spring rush, but some sororities have COB events in the spring and you might find a place then. OR you could wait and rush Fall '14. It's harder to get a bid as a sophomore, but they have a dual quota -- one for freshmen and one for upperclassmen. The upperclassmen quota might help you if you use freshman year to earn a great GPA, meet sorority members in your classes, dorm, etc. and get involved in other things on campus.

Sorry not to be more encouraging about this fall at Alabama, but it's probably going to be rough with a GPA under 3.0. Good luck whatever you decide.

My roomate was in your same position, except she was not as involved in high school, but she was GORGEOUS. I actually expected her to do better than me in rush. But first round, she was dropped from every sorority but 3 of them...which is very bad. If you honestly have a lot to offer (extracurricular, drop dead gorgeous appearance, lots of family money, good charisma and can carry on convos and are from the right zip codes) you will do fine and end up in a sorority that suits you. Otherwise you might not do so well. Usually 3.0 is the cutoff and Alabama has the most competitive Greek Life system in the country.

Why should it be bad? You only get one bid, not three. One of the three might be perfect.

You will probably get cut from many but the following sororities won't cut you first round: ZTA, Alpha Phi,DG,Gamma Phi Beta and perhaps Theta

ZTA will cut you first round. They did it to my roomate and some of my neighbors

did you mean DZ instead of DG? Delta Gamma has one of the highest sorority gpas so I'm guessing you meant Delta Zeta. I'd also add Sigma Kappa to your list.

honesty you will probably get three houses back max after rush but if i were you i would wait until sophomore year to get my grades up and then rush!! but still try it cause it’s such a fun experience and if you truly believe that rushing now is best then do it cause you might end up getting a bid in the end!!
