by:

I met a girl wearing a sorority shirt that only girls in the chapter should have (not a date party shirt), I didn’t recognize her so I asked her what PC she’s in and she said that she just likes wearing our letters, is that allowed?? Im confused

LYKE OMGGGGZZZZ

she is wearing your letters but isn't in your sorority? wowwwww!
did you make her take off the shirt? did you file a police report?

How dare she wear your letters without being your sorority! God forbid, someone actually takes her as a loser that pays for her friends because she's in a sorority!!

Seriously shut up. If you have absolutely nothing else going for you in your life that you have to "protect" your letters from outsiders...I feel bad for you.

While I agree it is awkward, but nonetheless

LYKE is definitely a stupid GDI. No one in any fraternity or Sorority is ok with some one not in their chapter wearing letters unless their sleeping with them. Letters are earned not given.

#2. It’s also a risk if she does something stupid because that chapter will be punished for it and it’s even worse if your punished for an outsider.

#3 GDIs please stay off this website if you are not going to bring anything usleful to the table. Hence with it’s called GREEKRANK

A lot of sororities set a rule that letters can only be worn after you are initiated. It is seriously disrespectful to wear letters for an organization that you aren't affiliated with. Each letter has a meaning that only initiated members know, and letters are a privilege of initiation. Yeah, it's not the biggest deal in the world, but to go around mocking something very serious to a lot of women all over the country bc you think you look "cute" isn't cool.

The houses have risk prevention officers, insurance, nationals, and major concern about reputation for both themselves, Panhellenic and the university. It is a problem when somebody impersonates them.

It definitely is. GDI's should not appropriate Greek culture

Being the sorority/fraternity name is copyrighted along with the letters, a person not entitled to wear the letters could face civil action. Usually, it doesn't get to that. Sometimes people are just asked not to wear them or they get sent a cease/desist letter and that solves the problem.

As a previous poster mentioned all nationals are very worried about their reputation and are stressing everyday what some member may do, let alone having someone not in the organization getting caught doing something stupid while wearing their letters.
