alabama sororities
by: hmWhy are the top houses at Alabama and in the south really not very pretty or trendy girls? Compared to the west coast where they are pretty much all instagram models.

Different standards of beauty/what makes a house "top". Alabama has the instagram model-style girls, too, but those houses aren't considered top because Alabama doesn't only consider looks when it comes to evaluating houses. For example, grades are equally if not more important than looking straight out of a Sugar Bear Hair or Fit Tea post. The houses filled with those girls are lower on the GPA list, and while GPA doesn't correspond directly to rank, it does factor in. Not everything is about what's on the outside. And even the girls in the top houses who may not be "instagram model" beautiful are still beautiful, just in a more toned down way.

EVERY house has beautiful girls, less attractive girls, and girls in between. I've seen some beautiful girls in Theta, AOII, and DZ, and some not as attractive girls in chapters like Phi Mu and Zeta, even crimsonettes. But does that mean any of those girls has anything less to offer? They just shine in other ways and were picked for those chapters not for their outer beauty, but for something inside that we don't see on instagram.

Because sororities are sisterhoods and a lot more goes into that than how someone wears their makeup and hair and clothes. Without sisterhood we are nothing. It's not about striving to be the hottest group of girls, or running a dating service for the boys, or getting famous on insta. Being smart, accomplished, kind, and respected are valued in a sisterhood, which exists for the benefit of our members, not anyone else.

Trust me you are lying to yourself if you imagine your not so sly dig at APhi, ZTA, etc is accurate. They arent top in grades (esp APhi...please girls, I am rooting for you, but just do it!), but I always love the comments made, as if those houses have no sisterhood. They may have struggles, but everyone always says oh the houses not known for looks (exception Phi Mu)are the ones with the best sisterhood. THat is not true and I won't go naming houses. There are several top sororities NOT known for sisterhood, as well as some typically ranked bottom. However, I always see a lot of ZTAs and Phi Mus and Aphis running around and having the best time. So...whatever.

@@ha Every chapter has their outliers. EVERY chapter. Every chapter has girls that dont fit in when all is said and done. And lol, at "official party line". My how grandiose of you. She obviously wasnt front and center or they would have called her out. I am NOT saying Aphi is perfect, by any means, but this legit could have happened to most any sorority. APhi simply needs to step up their standards and watch social media better. As could my chapter and most others I know. Some do a really excellent job of that.

@ha the lower retention rates are due to more far out of state students transferring back closer to home rather than a poor sisterhood. don’t make assumptions when you don’t know anything about the house. thanks!
