It's the richest area in the state of Alabama and Mountain Brook High School sends more kids to UA than any other school in the state. They're everywhere at UA, some are really cool and some are too snobby. They are the first selections for some Old Row sororities and for fraternities they mainly all go SAE and DKE.

to the dumb broad that commented first on this cost of living is much higher in those areas therefore income of those who live there will be higher so if the people in mountain brook moved to cali or new york and performed the same jobs as they do here they’d make enough to own penthouses or beachside mansions lol dont be ignorant

@wow and FYI You can not buy oceanfront property in an exclusive beach neighborhood or penthouse by working for someone. You need to be INTELEGENT which means you need to go to a GOOD school like an IVY League or Stanford for a glorified Jr College like UA where stupid people attend. Intelligent people don’t support PEDOPHILES to represent them , but what can you expect from UNSOPHISTICATED,UNCULTURED,STUPID INBREDS from Alabama.

It’s the exact same as any other wealthy area that feeds into any other state school. Buckhead and UGA, Houston/Dallas areas and UT, etc. Just apply it to your state and it will make sense.

At Bama, many students believe it's the social center of the universe. From which "everybody" comes - or at least everybody who matters (to them and their wanna bees).

Every city has some bersion(s) suburb/neighborhood the bigger the city the more such (or he wealthier such) places. But as someone else noted since the University of Alabama probably has
more students from there than any other single location it's notable.

Frankly, if your not from there it makes rush easier, because you don't really care about needing or wanting to be accepted by the Mountain Brookers. ESPECIALLI if you are OOS. And, there are plenty of places like or better than Mointainbrook, from which OOS kids are from in many houses. \n\n\n\n\n

The responses above are good. Mountain Brook is a upper middle class suburb of Birmingham that sends a decent amount of kids to Bama (although in the last several years they are actually trending Auburn, Ole Miss and TCU/SMU). The assumption that MB kids are a "big deal" at UA is false, though. They are definitely around but generally stay in their own little circles and are not particularly relevant at all since the school has become mostly out of state in its student population. If any area of Alabama has kept relevance politically at Bama, it is probably the Mobile area. It is probably also better to think of MB as just one of several Birmingham "OTM" (Over the Mountain) suburbs. MB does not stand out any more than, say, Hoover or Vestavia.

MB looks down on Vestavia too, though not as much as Hoover. Not that there isn't a lot of money there, but not as much tradition. The oldest MB families helped found Birmingham, but Vestavia was mainly white families who fled over the mountain after desegregatin in the '60s. They had to create their own social and civic organizations because they weren't accepted by MB society: Vestavia Country Club, the Poinsettia Ball, the Ballet Women's Committee, etc.

Don't tell anybody from MB that. LOL

Yeah, don't tell them that because they'll laugh in your face. MB is nothing like the surrounding trailer park of Hoover.

Comparing them to Vestavia is one thing, but Hoover is a different fcking story. Everyone from the Bham area knows that Mountain Brook is way different from Hoover. If someone said that, it's not even being snobby, just the truth.

If anything, I feel like being from Mountain Brook or Vestavia puts some people at a disadvantage when it comes to recruitment. I mean this because everyone knows everyone else, and if you're not known, you're the equivalent of garbage. Just my opinion

I am from Mountain Brook and I agree with the last reply. I was not a "cool girl" in high school and I had a super tough recruitment. Wasn't cool enough for old row but had trouble clicking with a lot of new row houses too. I am lucky where I'm at but girls at MB really have no say in where they end up, it's been predetermined. Same for Stav and Hoover and the Montgomery/Mobile private school crowd, though.

Don't be hating on hoover bc their good girls are top pnms and went too old row with options. Second level hoover girls are a big drop off but this is true also for all the in state schools, including the brook

Yes they do Mountain brook has estate sized properties that make it feel like your in the woods when you drive down the streets. Vestevia is more gentrified with smaller land estates. Also every road in mountain brook is like perfect. Alot of people kiss our asses cuz they hate us cuz they aint us. It is actually one of the most educated school systems in america so dont go calling us inbred.

The only ones who think Mountain Brook is such a big deal are the ones who live there. It is no big deal to anyone else. There are some nice people there, but many who desparately just need a zip code to make them feel important. It is a community kind-of stuck in the past.

By: For sure
by: lpjijoin

It is stuck in time. Mountain Brook City Schools don't receive any federal funding, so they do not have to bus in students from the inner city. Mountain Brook only has bus stops because of the help. Profiling is very bad in Mountain Brook too, and I'm not just meaning racially. If you do not drive any type of luxury car and you're driving around at night, you more than likely will get pulled over by the cops

The "Tiny Kingdom" nickname fits. MB is truly a legend in its own mind -- very, very insular, and very proud of its snobbery. If they don't know you or your "people," you're not going to break into the social scene no matter how rich you are.

The thing is, only a few areas are truly spectacular when it comes to the homes (like Old Mountain Brook near the country clubs). The rest looks like your average generic middle-class suburb.

Also...Alabama is such a poor state that there are really only a handful of really nice areas so the few they do have stand out. Whereas somewhere else like say, Texas, you have literally dozens of super affluent suburbs and neighborhoods

I'm from out of state, and I'm here at Bama having a great time and doing well in school.

I don't know a person from Mountainbrook that I know of!

My point is for all this talking about it, I don't think it's a big deal except maybe for the people from certain areas of Birmingham

I know where my closest friends are from, but beyond that people are not name dropping their suburb on a routine basis!

That's exactly how I am! I say I'm from Birmingham, then I'll say Vestavia if I'm asked further. Not everyone knows all of the Birmingham neighborhoods/suburbs people!

You don’t know anyone from Mountain Brook probably because of the sorority you’re in. I’m in an Old Row sorority and every other person I meet seems to be from Mountain Brook. Or maybe it appears that way because that’s all they talk about... either way Mountain Brook is nothing special and everyone knows that- unless you’re from MB.

Some parts of Hoover can definitely Be compared to Mountain Brook. Ross Bridge and Greystone for example.
