political views!

So...I'm pretty left leaning politically, and I know Alabama is obviously a conservative state but they've given me tons of $$$ to come here and I do want that big state school experience. What is the general political attitude of sororities (and frats I guess) here at Alabama? I mean I'm just nervous everyone around me is going to be this hardcore Republican and I'll have to never reveal my political beliefs so as not to be shunned ;) Are there sororities known for being super conservative and others known for being more liberal or even moderate? Or is that not something that really comes up much?

Unless you're running around with blue hair and a "feel the bern" shirt then you'll be fine. Plenty of girls are left leaning politically, and the ones that aren't are still tolerant of others' idealogy

Pretty conservative. You won't be "shunned" but I also wouldn't go around talking about politics. 7/10 people in the Greek system are probably more Republican.

i had the same fears as you did when i came here as a freshman. i am in a “new row” sorority and me and all the girls in my friend group lean left politically. of course there are both staunch liberals and conservatives in every house, including mine, but you will find your group and the people you click with. houses that recruit mostly alabama girls will probably have a lot more conservatives than houses that have more oos girls. but don’t be too worried about it because really it doesn’t matter that much and people don’t talk about that stuff all the time. if you can respect other people’s views they will respect yours.
