old row vs. new row
by: PNMHey guys, I was wondering what the differences between old and new row are, and why do these count?

Old row is older. New row is newer. GENERALLY SPEAKING, the perception is that the more well off, connected and/or high quality in state rushees go old row. Except for Phi Delt, who tends to get the old row rejects. Old row also gets stuck with legacies whether they want them or not. New row gets more in state leftovers, but attracts stronger and more solid out state talent. Old row has more tradition. New row has more fresh air. Those are the differences. Does it matter? Probably not. Old row, rush DKE, SAE, KA or maybe Phi Gam. New row, rush OX, SX, DX, Pike or maybe Pi Kapp. The primo tail gravitates towards these houses.

This may have been a girl asking about sororities. Old Row for girls is more or less like the Big Six at Texas -- it has more to do with family wealth and social standing than years on campus. (ADPi and ZTA, for example, were the second and third houses on campus, but they're New Row. Likewise, Chi O and DZ came to Bama the same year, but Chi O is Old Row and DZ is New Row.)
