sisterhood cuts and pref

by:

Hi, do the sororities cut people tonight or just rank them on to a final bid sheet? I heard that the vid sheets are final tonight and they don't vote again. Yes? No?

everyone HAS to cut AT LEAST a certain % each round. If you want to cut more that is up to your chapter. So If everyone has to cut 500 round 1, 400 round 2, 300 round 3....yeah it is a lot. But they are taking a pool of 2000 girls down to a pledge class sizes between 130-150.

@M, actually that's not quite the way it works. Each chapter is given a range of pnms to release each round. It's not a flat % across the board but rather a number based on the amount of pnms who historically accept invitations to the next round.

Ie, every house started with 2600ish pnms for IWT's and needed to have about 1800 pnms attend Philanthropy. A strong recruiting chapter may have able to invite a max of 1825 (releasing 775 pnms) to Philanthropy because so many PNM's rank them as a #1. A weak recruiting chapter may have needed to invite 2400 (releasing 200 pnms) to ensure 1800 attended Philanthropy because so many pnms ranked them as a #2,3,etc.

This helps increase the chance for every chapter to make quota because it forces strong chapters to release pnms who have no chance early in the week and gives pnms more time to get to know the average and weak recruiting chapters.

Yes you are right i was over simplifying for the sake of...i didn't feel like typing all of that out lol
Just trying to put it out there that houses have numbers they HAVE to meet as far as cuts go. Since back in the day before this method, sororities would keep inviting any and every PNM back and then cut them on bid day and then they'd end up nowhere!

No, they would not cut them on bid day. They would cut them before pref. Pref invitations have always meant you are on the bid list. But not everyone got a bid after pref due to something called cross-cutting but that doesn't happen any more.

Most don't vote after pref. We vote after sisterhood

My house does a final rank after pref but there is no discussion or 'vote' because all cuts have been made before pref. It's just a matter of who we want higher on the bid list.

There is always only one bid.

This is NOT a process where you get multiple bids to choose from.

Girls rank houses after pref.

If a pnms first choice is a house that has her on their first list, that is her bid. Period.

Youdont always get your top choice depending where you fall on your top ranked house list. Plenty of girls get their second and even third choice

But in any event, there is only one bid. \n\n\n\n\n

Girls who are invited to pref will be on the bid list somewhere, and therefore may very well end up a NM. Final releases after sisterhood are made with that in mind. This is especially hard on legacies.

Yes, chapters will be releasing pnms tonight and some chapters will be releasing large numbers. Every pnm who accepts the invitation to pref must be listed on the chapter's bid list somewhere so tonight is a tough vote for most chapters as it's the last chance to release pnms who aren't a good fit.

Yes, there will still be cuts after tonight. You are not guaranteed to have the houses you went to for sisterhood for pref. After pref however, you are guaranteed to get a bid to 1 house if you maximize your options.

The bid lists are made after pref or at least once they know who they're getting for pref.

So if a pnm ranks House A #1 but she's not on their first list, and she is on the first list for House B, her second choice - which house will she get?

You rank your pref houses #1 and #2 and the houses rank all the pnm's on their bid list. The matching algorithm starts at the top of a house's ranked bid list and goes down in order trying to match with all pnm's who put them down as #1. If you are not high enough on their list before they reach quota, the algoritm will then try to place you with your #2. If you are not high enough on your #2 bid list to match with them before they reach quota, then you will be a quota addition at either house. The algorithm will try to put you with your 1, but will also consider your place on both bid lists and the number of quota additions to be distributed. A quota addition is a just regular bid and no one knows these pnm's from any others. This system is how you are guaranteed a bid if you rank both your houses. If you only rank 1 of 2 (suiciding), and that house hits quota before they match with you, you are done and out of the process and will not get a bid. If you are only invited to 1 house for pref and you put them on your card, you will have a lovely restful night because you know where you are going on bid day.

to confused: She would get her 2nd choice, but could still move up to her first choice as spots open up when other people on the first bid list chose another house.

If the PNM’s name doesn’t come up until sorority A has filled to quota, the computer will try to match the PNM to sorority B, as long as the PNM attended 2 pref parties and listed both houses on her MRABA. The computer always first tries to match the PNM to her first choice. If the PNM wasn’t high enough on sorority B’s list, she will be a quota addition to either of those houses.
