tips for all freshman

1) Do not pack too much. You might think you'll dress nice for class, but you won't. I literally don't know a single Greek that dresses nice for class for no reason. You will need tons of running shorts, leggings, sandals(like chacos or birks), and athleisure wear. With other clothes, if you don't LOVE it, you won't wear it.
2) Bring a suit(if you have it), or at least some business clothes. A pencil skirt/dress pants, some nice sweaters/classy tops, a jacket, and black flats/low heels should be fine. There's a good chance you'll have to interview for something or attend an academic event where you'll need to look professional.
3) GET INVOLVED. It's nice to have friends outside of your sorority and it also makes UA feel more like home when you're a part of things you like doing. It doesn't have to be "prestigious" things like SGA, CMW, etc, it can be literally anything.
4) Don't say no to hanging out with new people, especially in the first month of school. That's when your pledge class friend groups are going to be the most fluid. Take advantage of that.
5) Don't overthink rush. There are 2500 other girls going through it with you. Actives probably aren't going to notice or care if your dress is the right shade of blue or if your straps are too thin. Not getting in the sorority you want is the epitome of a #firstworldproblem. You will learn to love your sisters if you give them a chance.
6) Go to class. Do your homework. Put in a few hours of studying before tests.

11) Remember that you just finished your Senior year where you were a big fish in a little pond. Now you are once again a little fish in a big pond. Listen to upperclassmen. They know things. Don't let them treat you like crap, of course, but most are willing to be very helpful with classes, advice, homesickness, whatever you need. Especially in your sorority. They've all been where you are.\n\n\n\n\n

Don't be afraid to pack light because if you need to you can ALWAYS buy something! For example, no one ever dressed up for parties at my high school like we did in college so when I showed up to bama I had nothing to wear for parties. I just went out and got a few tops, borrowed my roomies, etc until I had enough that worked for me.
Also, if you can, go home for as many school holidays as possible and while you are home return/exchange some of the clothing you brought but didn't really wear. There's no need to bring a sweater with you in August if you can go home and get it during the midterm break or even Thanksgiving.

Great post overall, but this particular point is something I wish someone had told me before I packed for school!
