phi mu

by: PNM

PM is lumped in with alpha phi and Zeta for hottest girls, but I don't have a good sense of what they're all about and why they are a top tier. Just because of better grades? Or are they just more well rounded?

The Pretty White Girl (PWG) is going extinct.
They are America's rarest human species.
America's smallest minority group. 🥺

PWGs are @ 1 in 15 in last Spring's sorority PCs.
It was 1 in 3 ten years ago.

Take many pictures of them, so we can remember what they looked like... 🦄

They're also petty and Old Row. That was not a typo.

PM gets the pretty southern PNMs, and pretty southern girls are generally viewed as "top tier". They have above average grades and involvement (really into SGA and greek-related activities).

I know people are going to fight me on this, but to me, Phi Mu is a top house... Because they're an attractive house, they're popular during rush for both instate and OOS girls, they're extremely involved in the Greek community and around campus, they have decent grades, and overall they're very competitive meaning they work hard for what they have. However, it's not true that they cross rush with ZTA & APhi... Anyone who says they do is a ZTA or an APhi trying to self rank.

Agreed. PM is very strict rules-wise and ZTA/APhi aren't. They all attract pretty and fashion-conscious girls, but completely different types.

I also want to mention that another reason why PM is a top house is because they reach out to the OOS girls... Unlike some other OR houses, they're not focused on one specific area of Alabama, they're open to girls from across the country.

I agree the Phi mu is a top house but I have to say I don't think they were very desirable during rush, at least my year (16). I didn't meet one girl in state or oos that spoke very highly of them. the other OR houses like kappa, alpha chi, etc I heard a lot more positive things about. A lot of girls were pretty uncomfortable in phi mu actually being taken upstairs during IWT etc, including me

The fact that PM is trying hard to branch out OOS is the reason why they are starting to cross rush so much more with ZTA. I agree they don't cross with APhi much. It is still not a big thing but they definitely are tracking a lot of the same pnms.

Phi Mu is called pageant allot on GR and it fits.

To me phi Mu is more "girly", a bit less about attracting guys, but it is about appearances, wearing certain brands and a touch snobby. \n\n\n\n\n

TBH I think this year was just a bad year for Phi Mu in terms of rush... Especially considering they had just unveiled their new house literally like a week before rush, so everyone was expecting them to do really well. And I mean they did fine but definitely not as great as they were hoping for. And I think the reason is because NR is stepping up... In general, OOS PNMs want to be wanted by a house, they don't want to be second to none and be placed as a filler girl in OR houses, and NR houses give them that sense of wantedness.

Idk... But PM is a top house. If they aren't, then who is? PM is the best of all other options in my opinion.

Actually I always thought that PM was a house with fewer in-state/OOS "filler girl" conflicts. Popularity and leadership depends more on looks and involvements vs. other OR sororities like KD/Kappa/AGD/DDD where in-state girls have a solid hold on power. AXO and PM are the newest to Old Row, so they're going to be more diverse and achievement driven than the others.

Top houses don't have to COB. EVER. Phi Mu had to do COB, therefore... not top. Still very, very good, but just not top.

With total being so high I just don't think COBing is an issue anymore. Total is set at chapter average so literally 1/2 of the chapters should have to COB. They can choose not to but it's very easy to fall behind and have to make up for it with a huge fall pledge class. Not to mention with COB you can actually get to know the PNMs

Why would pmu have to cob? Does it mean that they could not make quota because so many girls on pref chose other houses higher? Or is it that people quit, like if the dues went way up?

They had a lot of girls drop / graduate so they had to fill spots. COB makes it easier for them to get their top PNM's though too because it's not as competitive as formal recruitment.

If you have to COB it means you lost too many girls. And not that many graduate early in Dec so stop using that as an excuse.

COB = Not a top house.

One class doesn't define a house. Phi Mu had an off year, but it wasn't SO BAD that it majorly impacted something significant about their reputation/standing on campus.

why do yall say pmu had a bad pc16? Is it just because there was some COB or is there something else? Like too many legacies or not enough legacies or something like that?

@...

They didn't steal as many of the strong southern PNMs as anticipated from AXO/XO despite their new house. And they had an unusual amount of girls drop immediately after bid day, which is not a good look for a chapter.

Also, ya'll can stop downvoting me for saying 1 class =/= an entire house just because it doesn't fit with the narrative you're pushing, lol. Better hope you don't have a rough year this August or else you'll have to judge yourself as harshly as you're judging PM.
