how are parties/social life outside of greek life?

by: Transfer

I'm currently transferring from out of state from another UA to this one at Bama. I'm coming from the University of Arizona and the whole state is nothing but huge party schools. One of the things I loved about Arizona is that you don't need to be in a frat or sorority to rage, because the WHOLE school parties. This is why I didn't join a frat freshman year, but I do have a 3.5 GPA. Not every school is as blessed as we are, and I know MANY schools dont have ANY kind of party/social life outside of greek life. So, my question is, at Bama is greek life necessary to have fun, parties, or any kind of social life? And is Bama even a big party school? I could imagine getting a house out there and throwing ragers just like I did in Arizona, but is that even a thing out here? I have zero problems meeting people, and I'm extremely outgoing and social, originally from Los Angeles. Thanks guys!

I'm from Los Angeles too. I know exactly what you're talking about because I have lots of friends who go to Arizona. Alabama is a big Greek school with 1/3 of us in Greek life (12000) and most (if not all) parties are at the fraternity houses. During football season we have band parties and get performers like Travis Porter, Madeintyo, Waka Flocka, etc. (those are on Friday nights). There are also swaps and date parties, and game day tailgates. Second semester is darty season along with bars. People are at the bars like 5-7 days a week (Rounders, Harry's, Gallettes). As for if we're a big party school? Yes. People do have parties outside of Greek life like the sports teams and stuff but not many, most off campus parties are usually fraternities. If you are able to rush, I would say you do it because it will make bama that much better for you. I do know GDI's who still love bama without being a part of Greek life though.

Not really a big house party scene at Bama but definitely a huge bar scene. Honestly after freshman year a lot of people aren't that into the fraternity parties because the bars are more fun and not just a bunch of freshmen.

If you know people and have good social skills you can get into parties. But GDI social life mainly conists of of bars if you dont
