southern fashion

by: Rtr

I'm coming from the north and fashion is very different up here compared to the south. I was wondering where do a lot of southern/alabama girls shop? Not necessarily for rush outfits but in general and for going out.

Also, not necessarily for brands, but if you go to sorority's instagrams and stalk some of the actives they tag a little it might help you get a sense of whats trendy here

The trends for going out are not really any different. Wear what you like and what looks good on you. Rush clothes are a different story. Look at instagram and you will see no real differences.

Honestly, I really don't think it's about brands and where you shop. For the most part above, people have mentioned national chains and national brands.

What's different is where you wear these things. For example my friends in the north can't believe that we wear dresses to football games, and boys are in navy blue Blazers and ties.

Similarly a rush it's a little more formal and by that I mean more occasions to wear a dress appropriate for meeting someone's parents.

Day in day out it's a lot of T-shirts. Some new row houses get bashed for being a bit more put together to head to class

For parties it's the clothes you know. Again I think girls in the south a little bit more likely to be dressed up

I would say for the most part the styles are similar but there's a small subsect of girls mostly either in XO/KD/Kappa OR girls from wealthy parts of Bham/Montg/Atlanta who have a very different "going out style." These girls are extremely wealthy and they wear brands like Milly, Halston, and Karina, and Australian labels like Keepsake and C/MEO. I wouldn't try to force this on yourself though if it's not really who you are.

And don't wear Lilly if you wouldn't normally wear it otherwise. Super tryhard.

But specifically where do girls shop for trendy clothes in the south?

The brands they wear don't really have brick and mortar stores so you have to just look around boutiques. Two in Tuscaloosa off the top of my head are Effie's and Part Two. Tootsies in Atlanta is also a good example.

Some houses will hold trunk shows and you'll have plenty of opportunity to shop on weekends. Revolve and Shopbop online are good. If you get asked to formals, Rent the Runway is a good option for those one and done dress wearers. You just have to plan ahead because it takes forever for shtuff to get sent to Tuscaloosa, especially in bad weather.

Suede shoes and suede skirts with buttons down the front. Big billowy tops and lots of off the shoulder blouses. Rustic preppy, if that makes sense

Hey Rtr(Ready to Rush), what part of the North are you talking about. Do you mean East Coast the North Atlantic or Chicago and the Great Lakes region like Cleveland, Buffalo etc. For one area I'd say just leave your North Face at home and the other I'd say start from scratch.
