I just read "no off the shoulder" and "no spaghetti strap" dresses for rush. Really??

You will see past photos of girls wearing off the shoulder and spaghetti straps and you'll see some girls wearing off the shoulder and spaghetti straps when you actually come down for rush. BUT as you can see, a lot of actives DO NOT suggest this. Rush is a formal event! And it's not the time to look hot or try out that new trend, it's a time to look very well put together. I can promise you that you won't be seeing any frat guys during the week, so you're not trying to impress them, you're trying to impress houses of girls.

That being said, if you're very adamant about wearing an off the shoulder dress or one that has spaghetti straps then go ahead, BUT don't be upset if you get dropped from a house you love. I'm not saying that your outfit itself can get you dropped from a house, but sometimes it comes down between two PNMs and if we're always going to choose the girl who was classy and put together over the girl who raided Forever 21.

ASOS has a lot of great options for dresses that cover your shoulders btw!

Could off the shoulder or spaghetti straps be appropriate for IWT since it's the least formal? Like they say you can wear sundresses but I would never wear a sundress to a job interview.

NO. OFF. THE. SHOULDER. DRESSES.

NO. SPAGHETTI. STRAPS.

The ENTIRE week of rush is FORMAL in various ways. Just because the dress code for IWTs is "sundresses" doesn't mean it's okay to wear off the shoulder of spaghetti straps.

I know everyone above said rompers and bralettes are a huge no and will get you cut... what about off the shoulder? Is that an instant deal breaker???

lol did you not read the other posts?

- NO rompers
- NO showing undies (no showing bra straps, no showing bralettes, etc)
- NO off the shoulder
- NO spaghetti straps

I'm sorry if this sounds mean, but i just want y'all to understand that RUSH IS FORMAL. think of rush as an interview, would you wear a skimpy dress while meeting a future employer? no, obviously not. there are certain dress codes applicable for different situations, and a formal dress code is EXPECTED for rush. you don't need to be covered from head to toe, but you should be modest. no one's going to judge you for being a bit more conservatively dressed but a lot will judge you harshly for being wearing something that's more "risqué."

now obviously, you can wear whatever you want. I'm not telling you that y'all need to wear certain things, but as an active, i can say that clothes can make or break a bid. will you get dropped just because of a dress that has spaghetti straps? no, but if you're already cutting it close with gpa/involvement/reputation/etc then what you wear can be the tipping point.

all i can say is that there are certain expectations. whether or not you adhere to said expectations is entirely up to you. but if you want to make a good impression and not worry about being dropped because of your clothes then follow the dress code.

This isn't middle school guys. Maybe I just have less conservative friends but I legitimately don't know anyone that would take offense to spaghetti straps. IMO, as long as you aren't showing cleavage, your dress isn't too short, and you aren't showing your bra/etc, you're probably fine.

I honestly think the "recruitment is a job interview" advice is really good advice. Yes, we're all young ladies here, but it's still an interview and you still need to maintain that attitude,

Can spaghetti straps be wonderful and classy and awesome during everyday summer life? Absolutely. Would you wear spaghetti straps for an extremely important job interview? Probably not.

It's always better to be safe than sorry... and it's not like PNMs don't have a bajillion other less risky options.

Rush is a formal event. Please dress accordingly.

Showing up in less is blatantly disrespectful to your hostess which in this case is the sorority. They can and will choose not to invite you back to their party if you are a disrespectful guest. Period.

Cause linguini is much more classy than spaghetti. Gotta kick it up a notch for y'all on the old row.

So no showing your shoulders at all? I get no off the shoulder or spaghetti (linguini) straps. Does that make wider straps that might end at your shoulder a no-no too?
