honestly the best thing is to wear what you would normally wear. we want to see you for you, not the latest trend that hundreds of other girls will be already wearing. that being said, if you like a certain style or a certain pattern then wear it... but obviously polish it up. the honest truth is that we don't really care what brand you're wearing or whether or not its trendy, we want to see you wear something that's put together well and that makes you confident.

Do NOT buy your rush dresses from the Pants Store. There will be dozens of other girls wearing your same dress and you will not stand out. Go to a boutique in your hometown, or shop cute ones online.

The best thing you can do is not look like everyone else. You want to stand out (in a good, classy way).

Parker, Shoshanna, lovers + friends or use them for a look and try and find a cheaper version. Remember you may never wear these again.

If you wear a romper during rush, you're guaranteed to only be left with Alpha Phi and Zeta.

That is such a negative reflection on all the other houses, if true. Not all rompers are created equal. Gah, I see why then the Northern and Western PNMs go there.

There is no such thing as a romper that is appropriate for rush. If you don't believe me, try it. Wear one and see how many houses cut you that day.

What's wrong with Target? If you normally wear Target, then wear it during rush. The girls that end up unhappy in their houses are the girls that pretend to be something they're not during recruitment. Just be yourself and you'll land where you belong.

If it looks good on you, fits well, and doesn't wrinkle easily, then that's all that matters!

I got all my dresses from online (forever 21 and similar stores) and spent $20 on my most expensive dress, paired with cute but nothing crazy on accessories - I only got cut from one house throughout entire rush,
when actives asked me where I got a dress (got asked this at theta, aphi, phi mu, kd) I was honest and got nice responses no judgement and did not get cut from any even though ppl on here say some of those are judge-y

Clothes aren't the most important thing so don't go crazy spending $$ on rush outfits because chances are you won't be wearing those dresses much ever again just focus on being fun to talk to

Surprised Theta asked you where your clothes were from. Would have totally expected that from Phi Mu, though.

I have read several comments saying "you probably won't wear your rush outfits again." Why?

I they are your clothes you think look good on you... then what's up?

By: Curious... wear again?

I totally agree!! I wear my j crew shorts I got for rush all the time when I don't want to wear shorter shorts. My pref dress has been worn to 2 weddings. And my sundress get worn all the time. I think people who try to hard to fit in buy stuff they don't like which is beyond dumb!

some girls tend to go really hard during rush and get extremely expensive outfits that they wouldn't really wear in their day-to-day lives. this is especially seen with pref attire, girls will buy very expensive and formal dresses to sort of "show off" but never really have a chance to wear them again because the dress is just so formal.
it's better to find outfits that are within your budget and that will be a nice addition to your wardrobe for the years to come.

Black is a definite no. Navy is iffy, but you should be ok.

Some sororities wear black on pref. Also stay away from white as that is another popular choice for actives. Some houses wear colors on pref so you're never 100% safe but def don't wear black or white.

lol I wore black on pref and got a bid from my number one house.
Honestly, as a PNM you'll hear a lot of stuff from this site and even moms/adults that say not to wear specific colors on various days but it doesn't matter. I wore black on pref and I saw a lot of other girls did too. I also saw a lot of girls wear white. And there were also girls who wore colorful and/or patterned dresses.
If the dress is formal and you feel comfortable in it, then wear it. Anyways, would you really want to be in a house that drops you for what color dress you wear while you're in their house for only half an hour?

The general rule is no black on pref because the actives will be wearing it. If you don't have anything else to wear then I wouldn't personally cut you, but someone might. You might get lucky.

But what absolutely not to do is exclusively wear the colors of one house if you have 2 or 3 houses on pref. So if you're in love with Pi Phi, don't go around in a turquoise dress and ruby earrings. Same with pink and pearls if you have Phi Mu, yellow dress and turquoise necklace with DDD, etc. It might be accidental, but I've seen some really desperate girls do some weird things.

By the night of pref literally no house is going to cut you because you wore a certain color. By pref all the houses you get asked back to have a strong interest in you and will not cut you because your dress was black, white, or whatever. A house would drop you after the night of pref because their bid list filled up with more well rounded girls not because of what color you wore.
