gpa for rush
by: pnmSo I'm rushing as a sophomore next fall and I plan on taking a couple classes over the summer to improve my GPA since my first semester GPA wasn't so great. Because recommendations are due in July and summer classes usually last most of the summer, will sororities be able to see my new GPA after taking these classes? How does it work? Please help! I'm worried that I'll be taking these classes for nothing because sororities won't be able to see my new and improved GPA.

Houses have to take a certain amount of sophomores to reach a quota thats just how it is. since there aren't a ton, they're really looking for the girls who they like and will fit their house and they rush them hard. be likable, nice, relate to the girls in the house ect. and that will stand for more than your GPA

You should be taking summer classes to improve you gpa in general for your future. I understand Greek life is important but you should look at the bigger picture. They may give you some credit for recognizing your gpa is lacking and trying to fix it. If you end with a 3.0 you should be fine a few summer classes won't bring you to a 3.5 anyway. Many freshman have a rough first semester trying to get used to college. I am sure you are not alone in this.

To Sophomore: if you only want certain houses your friends are going to have to really pull for you. Do you have this?
Yes. Your grades matter at high GPA houses. Other houses not as much. Go see grade reports on Panhellenic website.
Your summer grades won't be seen. Perhaps a rec writer can send a personal letter to chapters with your successful summer but don't count on it working.
Be prepared to have just a few or one option. You may have lots of options if you have killer looks, personality, leadership.... Is that you?
Open your mind to all chapters if you want the Bama Greek experience.

1-your gpa is not strong. You stated it might be a 3.0. That will get you cut from ADPi and KKG. If you look at the grade reports, you will see that most of the houses that have a house gap over a 3.5. They will most likely try to protect that gpa UNLESS you are amazing in many other areas ( you are well connected, you have great presence, you are very well traveled, you are involved in many charities, etc.).
2- you went through recruitment and pledged a house. Many houses have a once cut rule that will follow you into this recruitment. You will be cut from those houses and it doesn't matter what tier. The fact that you pledged a house and couldn't make it work out will also follow you.
3- you are a sophomore. Many houses want freshmen as they will be more likely to be very involved for 3 years. Most seniors pick and chose their level of involvement due to majors, internships, and the like. They want involved members that will pay their dues. If a house has room for a sophomore that fits their other criteria, they are happy to add her into their house. But, they have to fit their criteria.
I'm being very honest in saying your choices will drop significantly after first and second round. If you have friends that absolutely love you and want you in their house, they can try their best. But, they can only do so much. Good luck.

1. There is an UPPERCLASSMAN quota. Not just sophomores. But that doesn't mean any sorority HAS to take any number of upperclassmen.
2. Summer grades are NOT factored into the GPA considered for recruitment for the simple reason that there is not enough time to process the paperwork before recruitment begins. Sorry, but there it is.
3. Often the minimum COLLEGE GPA that's acceptable is slightly less than the minimum HIGH SCHOOL GPA that's acceptable. Each sorority is different so there's no way to say who has what floor.
4. If you're that worried about it, maybe you'd do better to NOT pledge a sorority and pledge the library instead!

I've heard differently. Good houses want at least a 3.5. I'd be lucky to have a 3.0 by the end of this year. I actually rushed this year but got cut from a lot of good house because of my GPA and I don't want it to be an issue again. People recommended me to take summer classes but I don't get why they would recommend that if it won't count towards my GPA? I'm so stressed out and worried.
