bow ties for game days

by:

Hi, I'm an OOS kid coming to bama next year and interested in joining a fraternity. I came down for a game this year and I saw all the pledges wearing ties. My question is why aren't they wearing bow ties. I thought bow ties are really frat so i've been wearing them for as long as I can remember. Are there are any fraternities that wear bow ties for gamedays or have the option to because that's just my style and I'd like to keep it that way. It doesn't make sense to me though because I thought bow ties are really frat and i'm just confused. Also do kids here dress really preppy like pink shorts and buttondowns and sperry's on their own time because I didn't see many when I was down there. Any information on this would be great

LMAO WHAT?? omg this post is hilarious.

Okay first of all, yes, ALL pledges wear khakis, blazers, button down shirts, and ties for game days. If you do end up in a frat, I'm sure you could totally ask who ever is in charge of the pledges if you could instead wear a bow tie, however it's tradition that they wear the exact outfit I just described, including a tie.
Secondly, please get the idea that "bowties are frat" out of your head. Bowties are preppy and classic, but not frat. The period where all the frat guys wore bow ties with pastel chinos and vineyard vines croakies has past while girls were decked out in Lilly Pulitzer has past. While you will see some guys choose to dress more preppy, they do so because that's their personal style, not because it's "frat."
Overall, mens style on campus ranges dramatically. For frat men specifically, I see a good amount of guys just stick to khakis with t shirts or button downs, seeing that the preppy trend has died down immensely. Just chill out and stick to your own style...

Lol what the fck kid, no you can't wear a bow tie. Bow ties are not frat, and please don't even use the word frat ever. You do not sound like fraternity material, but maybe you would fit in in one of those major try hard new row houses. Also, why do you or anyone else think bow ties look good? They're appropriate for one thing, and that's with a tux. Any other time they are never appropriate.

Honestly why tf do you care so much about what tie you wear. What do you think your boss will do to you in the future if you show up to work in a bow tie instead of a tie? Ever seen the wolf of wall street, it didn't end up too pretty for that guy. That's what would happen to you except add extreme hazing in there also

Looking at the comments above, you may just decide not to go here since the guys in fraternities are so gauche and pretentious. Sad but true.

That would be a good thing to keep kids like that out of our college. They completely ruin our southern traditions
