In MY personal opinion, Delta Zeta at UA is the bottom house here. Of course there are some good girls in all of their pledge classes, but their overall reputation isn't the best. They're a house for all the girls dropped by the better houses, and they're known for being crazy and not having a good sisterhood. I personally know many DZs here and all of them that I know, except for one, are legit crazy, weird, and/or snobby. (That being said, I know that doesn't apply to their whole chapter... But still!) My friends who are DZs have continuously complained to me about how they wish they pledged a different house and some even strongly considered dropping.
This is what Delta Zeta appears to me and many, many other people. As I've said, some bad girls can't speak on behalf of an entire chapter, but regardless, DZ is THE bottom house here at UA and has a notably bad reputation. Not only is this chapter weak, but they don't have strong nationals either - so if you're a pnm and looking for a house that not only has a good reputation here but is also strong nationally, I'd say aim for another house... (Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Kappa Alpha Theta have BOTH good reputations here and have incredibly strong nationals).

How is that hateful to just give their honest opinion .. like no some of us think they’re bottom of the barrel! They will fight it out with Theta this Rush .. pnms would be better off in AOPi or Alpha Phi this year

Having strong nationals means that a sorority has an overall good national reputation and they not only have chapters across the nation at big name schools, but that those chapters are also "top" at most schools. Another factor in strong nationals is their notable alumni. If a sorority has a long list of notable alumni, chances are that sorority has good nationals. Being in a sorority that has strong nationals ensures that, in the future, when you go out to apply to job/internships/etc, you'll have an easy time finding places and getting said jobs/internships because of the connections from your sorority.
Greek life here at UA is extremely competitive and requires a lot of dedication, that being said, for a sorority to have a chapter here, they basically need to have good/strong nationals, otherwise the chapter here would be a disaster. Delta Zeta's nationals aren't necessarily "weak," but in comparison to others, like Chi Omega's and Kappa Alpha Theta's nationals, they're weak. If you search a list of DZ notable alum, they have a very short list filled with women you most likely haven't heard of before, however ChiO and Theta have very, very long lists with very familiar names.
Saying DZ nationals seems great just because your friend is in a chapter at LSU doesn't mean anything. EVERY sorority has their good and their bad chapters. What truly matters is how strong their nationals is.

Weak nationally means that a lot of their chapters have either closed or recruited poorly. Not everywhere, just more places than most houses. And the lack of connections comes from having fewer national members that can help you connect in business. Lower recruiting houses get fewer girls who are driven to succeed. I don't mean there aren't any great DZs, but the perception is that there aren't as many nationally as there are for other houses. That's one reason houses with great national reputations like Gamma Phi and even Theta will always be preffed over DZ regardless of their status at this particular university.

Do some research . DZ is very strong nationally and the U of A has a very strong alum support.
DZ has been in campus continuously since 1922.
There new house will blow others out of the water

No one is jealous of DZ. They are in the lowest tier here and nationally. At least Theta and Gamma Phi (and to a lesser extent)DG have a better national reputation. Give it up. DZ is a last ditch choice.

I think that some of the sororities below DZ are making a point to bash them on this website to make themselves feel and look better. It takes a very small and bitter person to take the time to write such mean things about others. If you do your research, you will find delta zeta actually has one of the largest alumni networks. Just because they don't have famous alumni does not mean they are not good nationally. They also have many pretty, smart, and involved members. From what I know they have a good sisterhood, and I hope their new house helps them compete during rush!

The fact that they have one of the largest alumni networks yet hardly any notable alumni of high ranks proves the point that dz has weak nationals even more. Of course dz has important alum - every sorority does. But dz lacks greatly compared to every sorority here at bama. From what I heard they have a really, really poor sisterhood. I actually live with a dz and she's always talking down about her sisters.

@sure after you graduate, what will help you more? A sorority with a lot of alumni and alumni chapters that can help you network no matter where you live, or a sorority that has famous alumni? If you are saying that famous alumni are an important factor in choosing a sorority, explain why. Don't just say it proves they are "strong nationally;" tell me how a group with famous members will help you in your day to day life after graduation.

Honestly DZ is probably the bottom house here at UA. You can debate that Theta or GPhi is the bottom house, but if you take everything into consideration, DZ is hands down the bottom house. GPhi has pretty strong nationals, they have a very nice house, and though they have a mixed pledge class, they have a strong sisterhood at this chapter. Theta has probably one of the strongest nationals of all sororities, they're in the process of building a new house, they ranked 3rd highest grades this past Spring, and like GPhi, though they have a mixed pledge class they're still very connected with one another. DZ has one of the lowest overall GPA's on campus and many people know of them to be wild. The overall impression of them that MANY people have of DZ is that it's a last-resort house, basically a house for all the girls who literally couldn't get a bid from anyone else, but didn't want to miss out on being in a sorority. Overall, if you really want to be a sorority here at Bama but don't really have anything special to offer and it you're not really hot then DZ is probably your only choice... That along with SDT.

Why are there so many mean posts about dz here? I know a lot of girls who are in dz and really enjoy it. The only reason I can think of for bashing dz (a sorority with 400 diverse women) to this extent is that you're afraid they're a threat or you have a problem with one girl.

I personally don't think these posts about DZ are that mean. Yes, of course, there are girls in DZ that absolutely love it. However, there are a lot of girls that hate it. I think that if the majority of people agree that a certain sorority has a certain reputation then you shouldn't fight it - It is what it is. The point in threads like these are for PNMs on this sight (and, yes, lets be honest, there are a lot of PNMs on here) to get an idea about sororities before rush. Of course their opinions of sororities shouldn't be dictated by this sight and will change once they rush, but this sight allows for people to get a general feel about sororities. The broad reputation people have of DZ here at bama is that they're not the best sorority. Everyone has different opinions, obviously, but the majority of people on here this sight and on campus have towards DZ is that they're the bottom house for various, good reasons.

idk to say DZ is bottom is a stretch, I will agree they are lower tier but not bottom. I don't want to pick on other houses, but its pretty known on campus, at least in my expierence, that there's 2 or 3 other houses below them. During rush most girls I know ranked them above other lower tier houses. That being said, all houses at UA are good! We have one of the biggest greek systems in the US roll tide

I'm not a DZ, Theta, or GPhi so from my perspective I feel like these are the three bottom houses but they would rank: GPhi, Theta, and lastly DZ. No offense to DZ whatsoever, it's just that both GPhi and Theta have so much more to offer than DZ.

agreed! that was nicely stated. dz isn't a good sorority here based on numerous factors. theyre bottom for everything: looks, grades, sisterhood, reputation, etc...
dz is a good fit for girls who can't get into any other sorority here and don't care about the lack of future connection they'll have since their nationals is so weak.
