national stereotypes (accurate)

by:

Nationally, Tri Delta is generally on the top, followed by Zeta and DG.

KD, Theta, and ADPi are a hit or miss.

I've never heard of an AOII chapter NOT being the worst.

Disagree? Any other generalizations that you find to be true?

I have never seen something that says DDD is top nationally. I tend to avoid generalizations like this OP is trying to bait. Seems like a troll for GR.

I'm not talking about a national survey, I'm talking about my experience traveling and talking to other Panhellenic women and sisters. At most larger schools I've seen them in the top 3. This is obviously subjective but still in my experienc very true.

Also of course the title is a little click baity but it's because I want to have a conversation and hear others challenge this, perhaps with feedback from other schools, or other non rank-related stereotypes, like generAlly chi os are heavily focused on academics and jesus (much more than other orgs)

Phi mu is always in the middle. Never great, never the worst, just "meh", at least in the south

AOII is never the best or the worst anywhere. They're pretty solid here. Not the best but solid. A lot of pretty girls and great GPA

They're pretty damn low here

You can honestly get a rough national rank by looking at when each org joined the NPC, with some exceptions.

1902: Pi Phi, DDD, Alpha Phi, DG, Kappa, Gamma Phi, Theta (these 7, except with XO substituted for GPhi, are known as the "seven sisters" and are the nationally strongest/most prestigious organizations. some have areas where they are stronger - DG/Aphi in the west, DDD/XO in the south - but overall they're very strong national houses).

1903: AXO, XO

1904: AxiD (this is a bit of an exception; they're not strong nationally)

1905: Sigma Kappa, AOII (also somewhat exceptions)

1906: Zeta, AGD, ADPi

1910: DZ

1911: Phi Mu

1912: KD
a
1951(!!): Tri Sigma, AST, ASA, DPhiE, AEPhi, Phi Sig, SDT, Theta Phi

So basically you have:

TOP (seven sisters): Theta, Kappa, DDD, Aphi, DG, Pi Phi, XO
UPPER MID: Zeta, GPhi, ADPi, AGD, AXO (could argue for AGD & AXO down)
LOWER MID: AOII, AxiD, DZ, Phi Mu, KD (could argue for KD up)
UPPER BOTTOM: Tri Sigma, Phi Sig, AEPhi, DPhiE
BOTTOM: AST, ASA, SDT, Theta Phi

interesting and actually very true. however, women should join where they feel most comfortable regardless of the national strengths.

the national strengths are important for post-college life. career connections etc.

"Seven Sisters" refers to seven women's colleges that were considered the Ivy League of women's colleges.

Yes, there were seven sororities to join (what is now NPC) in 1902.

Chi Omega was not one of the original seven -- as they joined in 1903 -- and there is no sliding them in place of Gamma Phi Beta.

Just to show how Alabama bears little resemblance to national strength, the top national sororities are generally considered to be Kappa, Pi Phi, Chi O, DG, and Tri-Delt.

The next national tier is Zeta, Theta, Gamma Phi and Alpha Phi. Probably AXO and KD, too.

Then there is a BIG national gap to the middle tier sororities.

The top tier national sororities include chapters that are considered top, upper-mid, mid, and lower-mid/bottom at Bama, while some of Bama's top and upper-mids are nowhere near the top nationally.

My advice - pledge the house you feel the biggest and best connection to, and look around at Pref Night at the other PNM's lined up outside the houses with you as they could be your pledge class. The ranking - here or nationally - really is not as important as joining a house you want to be a part of during college.

Whoever said that "national strengths" are important for post-college life and career connections is an idiot. Your sorority affiliation will not mean a thing. Nobody gives af what your sorority was after you leave campus. Any campus.

By: No
by: Me again

A small percentage of sorority women do stay involved after graduation- seeking meembership in an alumnae chapter or even serving as an advisor or other volunteer capacity. Many more will use their sorority connections to expand their career network and help find jobs- ie, seeking out older XYZ's who are, for example, fashion industry insiders who work in NYC.

In a perfect world where every 18 year old PNM knows exactly what career they want to pursue and where they want to live, it may be helpful to know that DG has a huge alumnae base on the West Coast or that Theta is very prestigious in Texas or that AOPi and AGD have more representation in the Northeast. Or that some sororities have alumnae chapters in Europe and other parts of the world while others don't.

These benefits seem more accidental than intentional though- ie, you won't know that you want to stay involved as an alumna unless you have an amazing experience at Alabama. So again, it goes back to pick the house your heart sings for on Pref Night.

There is not a "national reputation" and the seven sister thing is the stupidest thing I've ever heard of.

The most widely recognized sororities are the ones that formed the panhellenic association. So if you want a list, that's it.

Pi Phi, Theta, Kappa, Alpha Phi, Gamma Phi, Tri Delta, DG

Wow. What a mixed group here at Bama
