people say things never change, but according to family members from both 80s and 90s this is what it used to look like (according to them, others may have slightly different opinion):
best frats (in no particular order):
ato, chi psi, sigma nu, phi delt, sigma chi
best srats (in no particular order):
dg, sdt, aephi, piphi, kappa
some houses that are considered "top" now were "bottom" then (e.g., alpha phi)
some of these changes happened over time, some suddenly. so anything can change.

chi psi was a top house at least from the late 80s (don't know about before that) until they were kicked off about 10 years ago. it was a very different vibe before than it was when they came back and it is now. lots of athletes, super wealthy guys (old money), private school etc.

lol true, they were never "a" top house, they were "the" top house until they got kicked off

Alpha Phi was definitely considered the bottom srat into early 90s. What I heard from my family is that sometime around then their national organization sent representatives to campus, basically kicked out the girls who were the active sisters (there were not many) and did rush themselves. If you have read the stories about their national rep involvement at Michigan it is easy to see this could have happened.

Surprised Phi Mu didn't do this considering they're almost always a top srat at other schools

dude's talking about a few years ago; phi mu should have kicked the girls out and brought in nationals for real instead of letting their house get overrun by nerds and just giving up

Their national did the same thing around the same time at Missouri, Duke, and UVA. They called it "revitalization."
