Sophomore Guide to Rushing Frats
by: soph transfer
This is aimed towards NEW Sophomore guys who are ambitious and confident in their rush chances. You want to join a top house, but it can be very hard, or just straight luck. So you don’t want to put all your eggs in one basket. Here’s how to rush top houses while making sure you don’t get screwed over.
In terms of Fall Rush: Rush Top tier DU, 1-2 of 2nd tier DX/Chi Psi/Sig Pi, and 1-2 Mids (like Pi Kap) in the fall. Get a sense for where you fit well and what you value in some houses over others. Don’t take a Mid bid unless it’s a perfect fit, or you are getting the sense you may not be a top/upper house guy (Nothing wrong with that). If they’re not fits, hold out for…
Spring Rush: Rush Top tier (SX/SPhi), Upper/Upper Mid (Chi Phi, etc) + of course all the houses you left available from the Fall list. Then as a sophomore, it’s important in the spring to have a SAFETY Mid or lower house that you know you will A) Get a bid 2) Like the brothers. This can be Pike, PSK, SNU, whatever floats your boat and you float theirs.
Didn’t mean to not mention ZBT or Lambda - also good houses, just easier to get into than some houses I mentioned before, yet better mixing than what i would consider to be a “Safety”. I also can’t 100% confirm whether these houses are going to do fall rush so I didn’t want to lead you wrong.
Either way, you should also choose 1 of those 2 Upper Mids to rush whether you do fall or spring.
Didn’t even try preferring any houses over others, genuinely trying to help sophomores find the right fit 👍
Cornell people I know you’re gonna find something to hate on but I really didn’t shade anybody… AD was left out for ethical reasons 🗿
