why is everything banded??

saw this discussion on Sidechat and thought I’d bring it here:
can we all agree that opens would be so much more fun? Like every other state school and even other privates have non banded events and they seem to be having a MUCH better time and don’t seem to be all caught up in the “risk” and “liability” it imposes on the frats…
Ik so many people that would rather pay at the door than do all banded events. cmon guys isn’t Greek life supposed to be about having fun and being social? How social can u be when the events are exclusive to the same 3 or 4 groups of people every time????

Since these parties can get big and there’s already sometimes not enough space even with the bands, it ensures the sororities they want there get a spot into the party. If this wasn’t the case, all the girls would get mad at the frats If there sisters couldn’t get in over other girls. Sororities and frats have relationships and don’t necessarily want them to fall apart
