"institutions in the top 30 require immense attention to academics to succeed. those in the top 10 especially situate their undergraduate students for lifelong success as they select for and cultivate intense discipline and focus."

tbh not even mad Cornell is 21st. makes sense considering we have a very diverse course offering. it still puts it very very high in academic rigor. and if we are ranked above Dartmouth and Dartmouth is one of the most prestigious schools in the country, then that makes Cornell even more prestigious

Georgia over Harvard.... That alone makes this rank meritless

by: well its about rigor

I think its because its Georgia Tech not "U of Georgia". GaTech is an extremely elite engineering school and my friend who just graduated harvard undergrad in math is doing his masters and phd at georgia tech lol. This is not a prestige ranking, it is an academic rigor ranking.

Just checked Georgia tech has 15k engineering undergrads and total undergrad population of 16.5k, actually comparable to Cornell's total population. but basically 90% of students are engineers. in fact Georgia tech is the most selective public engineering school. Engineering will always beat the other majors in rigor, regardless of prestige of the name of the institution.

Harvard is known to be a relative breeze. in fact, many Cornell programs like Dyson, Engineering and CAS are more difficult and strenuous than Harvard.

@Dumb you're making us look dumb as hell with this comment. ITs GeorgiaTech not Georgia, and stop praying to Harvard

Dude the rank is based on academic rigor at undergraduate level only. 95% of the Gatech majors in engineering. That’s even higher than MIT. It’s not talking about prestige, quality of education/research or opportunities provided to students. Obviously Harvard or Stanford would dominate prestige

This is a rank based solely off how much academic work students take up during the school year and how difficult it is to be in the top 10% of your class.

Same thing with HMC. That’s a science and engineering college only so it’s ranked higher than what you’d expect because it’s more rigorous on average

And Caltech is #1 because it’s like the most intense science and engineering program in the world, but obviously it doesn’t have the typical name recognition as Harvard. The McKinsey methodology will favor schools where higher percentages of the population take on difficult programs or schools with higher percentages of difficult classes like Marxist theory or something advanced in engineering. Cornell just offers way too many random classes like fashion and hotel management and agriculture. Otherwise we would be in the top 15

At Princeton all students are required to do research and at schools like Stanford, Chicago, Columbia, Penn and even Hopkins, students tend to have a much higher focus on overworking themselves to death. Cornell is just more diverse personality and academics wise which has great benefits too.

Pretty sure a Georgia tech CS or Electrical engineering degree is much more prestigious than Cornell Hotel School or Fiber science. I don’t think this rank is about prestige, that’s superficial and it’s not about employment outcomes either.
