Cornell vs Vanderbilt

I know that both are great schools but how come US News ranks Vanderbilt ahead of Cornell even though Cornell is an Ivy League?

this is a conspiracy... the main thing is that usnews goes largely by "per student" or "on average" metrics which obviously priveleges smaller schools... they also take into account admissions stats like acceptance rate and yield which tend to favor schools that yield protect more like Vandy... while most Cornell students probably agree that we aren't a top 10 school, we easily are a top 15

i think part of it is that Vandy has less than 7,000 undergrads whereas Cornell obviously has more BUT they are distributed across various schools
