House safety and kegs
by: Fraternal Historian
"A Bowling Green State pledge at PIKE died a week ago from alcohol poisoning. Supposedly happened at his Big/Little night - as did Oakes at VCU last week - as did Coffey at Florida State and Ellis at Texas State in 2017. Hazing is not usually part of Big/Little celebrations - the Big usually buys something and the two split it during the party; drinking is un-tasked.
Supposedly liquor (Tito's). Liquor, not beer, has been causal for every Pledge death (except one - Tucker Hipps at Clemson was sober) in the last 10 years.
We have to defy our Nationals and switch back to kegs and beer if we want this to stop. Nationals' decree to push kegs out of fraternity Houses has proven the single most deadly decision in higher education. Houses predictably obfuscated with easier to hide liquor - and liquor is too easy to die from - particularly for freshmen lacking induced hepatic enzymes."
