Is UpperMid feasible without connections?

by:

I don’t really know that many people going into rush so I know getting a bid from top houses is going to be extremely unlikely. I’m currently thinking of aiming for UpperMid houses and was wondering how disadvantaged I am for those if I don’t have connections/wasn’t tapped in first semester.

Yea, but without any dirty-rushing you should have a couple backups (Mid houses) just in case.

Like a third of rushes get 0 bids every spring because they overestimate the tier in which they belong

Gonna be very frank, in an upper/upper mid frat and there are way too many guys who overestimate that they fit here and actually fit in the C4 Mid frats. The C4 Mid frats are also dope and have plenty of great guys. Us and the other frats we cross rush with generally have half our classes basically set after accounting for kids who will leave us for top/upper snap bids.
For reference, last spring roughly 450 kids started rush and only 250 signed bids. Most of them were guys who rushed upper mid through top and did not fit there. Also if you look at the org scorecards and look at frat sizes, you will see that 4 of the top 10 frats in terms of size are all C4 Mid. Upper mid and above aside from DX generally take fewer kids. Realistically if you have no connections, your chances are slim for upper mid. If you are dope and the brothers (note the brothers not you) think so (does not happen often for guys we don't know of), then you have an outside shot.

One question about that, what would make someone fit in at a c4 mid but not at an UpperMid with similar vibes? Like for example since PiKapp and ChiPhi are both fratty/rowdy, why would someone vibe with one but not the other?

Three things really, one the upper mids and above generally like taking kids we know or know of. So if you walk into ChiPhi without knowing anyone, it is going to be an uphill battle to get a bid vs PiKapp where you don't neccessarily need any connections to get pushed forward.

two, none of the C4 mids have a direct match with their Upper mid and above counterpart. Exception to this is DX and Phi Tau as DX is more preppy but they more or less have the same chill, soft, artsy vibe. But while PiKapp and Chi Phi are both considered fratty/rowdy, PiKapp is much less rowdy and fratty than Chi Phi and is moreso fratty/rowdy in comparison to the other houses.

third, the bar is just higher. My best friend is in a C4 mid and he told me that if there is something off about a kid but they are overall still chill/cool, they will still bid him. My frat won't unless we are fully sold on a kid and have no doubts.

Don't listen to these greekrank grinders and not join greeklife just because you only got C4 Mid bids. Trust me, I have been to my friends frats, they are all fun as well. Being in a C4 Mid is still such a great experience because they generally are larger brohoods and infinity miles better than being a Geed. Just join greeklife and don't wait for the fall. If u didnt fit now, you wont fit later. Join the house that is best for you.

Ya completely get that. I’m definitely going to rush c4 mids along with UpperMids and I’m fine with joining a mid house
