Pledging Grade Drop?

by: lmfao

I'm a freshman in Dyson who plans on rushing in the spring, and I was wondering how badly I can expect my grades to drop during pledging, especially if I choose to rush an upper house which has more intense pledging. Currently, I've been able to maintain approx. a 3.7 first semester with minimal effort. How can I balance pledging and academics?

You'll be able to maintain both with a little effort. Pledging a frat is considered to be the time equivalent of a 4 credit class, so work around that as you will. Besides that a lot of frats will have study time during the week, and you'll have a new network of brothers/ new members who can help you out with work and classes. You'll be ok.

If you join a mid tier maybe. Any of the harder pledging frats will definitely hurt your grades and they won’t have any type of study time. Just gotta make sure you take easier classes next semester.

I'm looking at upper-mid to upper houses in the spring; my courses aren't too hard so would I be able to manage pledging and doing well in my classes?

If they're easy and low effort classes then maybe, but it's pretty common for pledges to get C's and B-'s or end up dropping classes, especially if they're for your major and matter. Would recommend taking a 12 credit course load if possible, take only one major specific class and defer anything hard for the fall.
