rushing the wrong frat/sorority

by:

Basically what the subject says. PNMs make sure you are joining a fraternity or sorority where you fit in and where you feel the most comfortable. I made the mistake of joining somewhere I thought was "cool", I was more so just after letters and fun times, but a year later I can maybe say I have 5 good friends out of my organization.

It's too late to drop, I think I'll need to wait a year to rerush and by then I'll be a junior (= no bid). It's crazy how much fun people have in their organizations and in mine we avoid each other in public so we don't have to interact with one another <<<<< This is not the "friends" you want.

At pref round I was down to a top tier sororities and an upper middle sororitiy. I enjoyed the conversations in the upper middle sorority way better but still chose the top house because of what I read on Greek rank. I ended up dropping because I did not fit in at all and there was so much drama and negativity. Now I'll never know what it would have been like if I had chosen the other sorority that I liked better.

junior = no bids????

Basically getting a bid gets harder and harder as you move up in class ranking.
This isn't always the case, but it's better if you know someone in the organization or have some sort of "pull" to get you in. First semester freshman have the highest odds when it comes to not knowing people within the organization and getting bids (because how many people can you know after being on campus for 1 week?)

You can rush as a junior but do understand what you are getting yourself into. The odds are against you.

OP you do know there is an upperclassman quota right? Especially for chapters who have a hard time retaining members.
Also only 3 girls out of 1600 last year didn't get a bid. Just because you're a junior does not mean you do not get a bid. As long as they continue through the whole process they'll get a bid somewhere.

What OP doesn't seem to know is that once you're initiated you can't ever join another Panhellenic organization, assuming OP is female. It would seem that being a member for a year they would already be initiated and their class status is irrelevant because it's against Panhellenic rules to rerush after being initiated.
