I really wanted to join a sorority so I figured I would try out Pi phi. I didn't want to wait until the fall because I'll be a junior and I was afraid I wouldn't want to get a bid. Going through the different rounds I didn't really connect with any of the girls (most were really weird) they kept talking about how they don't want their sorority to be like all of the others on campus because they want theirs to be "diverse" it never crossed my mind that any sorority on campus wouldn't pick a girl because of their race, etc. They made me feel really uncomfortable.. Well come to find out they didn't even give me a bid which is okay because I was debating on whether I should spend money on a sorority where I didn't connect with anyone not even the girls in the pledge class. It's kind of embarrassing to have gotten dropped from the lowest sorority on campus so I'm debating if I should even try formal Rush in the fall. I'm not trying to bash Pi phi or anything that was just my experience with them. I really want to be in one though I'm just not sure if I'll get a bid from another one now. What would you guys do?

Is this is your attitude, then I would highly suggest to not go through recruitment

They didn't drop you because they were too good for you, so don't feel like you shouldn't rush other houses. They obviously dropped you because they could tell that you felt like you didn't belong there. Thats why everyone says that you'll end up where you're supposed to be so don't lose hope. Who knows you might click with a top tier sorority and end up there. Tiers don't matter, how you fit in with the girls does.

Exactly. Going through recruitment isn't about tiers. It's about finding girls you connect with. I suggest going through formal recruitment and focus on the connections you make with the girls you talk to.

Thanks I'll try that I didn't think of it that way! I wasnt trying to say that I was better than them or anything like that I guess it was just obvious we didn't connect.

This hurts me to hear. All sororities are diverse, not just Pi Phi. In mine, we have girls from all over, as well as some girls that aren't white/ are of different races. With a group of 300+ women it has to be diverse. I would also recommend going through formal recruitment-- I know the houses that I connected with surprised me a little, and I dropped the ones that didn't. Don't let one bad experience define sorority life for you!
