my rush experience
by: Spring transfer and rush
So this is my first semester at USC and a month ago I decided I would rush. I found this website and used it as a guide to help me pick and choose which fraternities were best for me.
After open house today, I got a feel in person. And realized these posts should be taken with a grain of salt.
I had the idea that Chi Psi would be the best fit for me... Maybe it was just bad timing but none of the members clicked with me. And that's fine.
I did like beta, and lambda, and a few others whose names escape me... Though others seem to scoff at beta. Idk why. One guy tried to lure me in by convincing me that racism is prevalent among the top tiers... Idk how true to was but that didn't stop me from talking to anyone and everyone.
Long story short, you won't really know until you go for yourself.

Exactly everyone thinks that they wanna go to the house that everyone hypes up for partying but when they start profiling you about your income and what HS you went to and not talking to members they view as less worthy (like chi psi, ka and sig nu all do) then you realize you'd rather be with the nice guys with open minds/diversity

Why is that exactly? because of the color of their skin? I find it hard to believe that the majority of colored kids that rush lack the principles in each of these organizations.
Is it because you think they are poor or something? Not that I bid based on wealth, but there was one kid (of color) who came from money.

wow, a day later and I'm reading this... It's saddening. I'll just remain hopeful that if/when I don't get a bid it will be because I didn't fit in well with the members, personality wise, and not because of the color of my skin. I think we have moved forward enough in society for that to be true.

I think the important thing to notice is that the original poster isn't necessarily bashing any fraternity in any way or making any sound bad. He, it's safe to assume it's a male, is only giving an account of his experience so far without revealing too much.
It could be easily misunderstood that he's attacking certain fraternity, but he's not. In a way this could serve as a valuable resource for others.
Glad you're enjoying yourself man, after bid day you most likely won't be using this site anymore, but just know you are provided useful info to a lot of people.

Guys, fraternity's aren't for everyone. Just because you read TFM and want to be popular doesn't mean you are entitled to being in someone's private organization. If you're from fricking Oregon you aren't going to have anything in common with KA and they aren't going to waste your time leading you on. They are an exclusive private organization as are all fraternities. Why does everyone think they should be open to the public? Can I just walk onto our football team even if I don't have the background they're looking for? Can I just get a callback from every employer at our job fairs because it's not fair that they're exclusive? That isn't how life works just get over it if you're northern as hell you don't fit in with them why would you even want to try?

In my fraternity we got into a heated debate over whether to give a pledge a bid. He was super cool, decent gpa, and he was just great to be around. Idk how good he would of been with the girls though. He was black. And there's really was no reason to deny him, but they (we) did. I feel so bad idk what to do.
He messaged me earlier inquiring about our event(s). I can't contact him anymore... I saw him today, he looked at me and I just avoided eye contact.
I love my brothers, but for me this just wasn't right.

yeah because chi psi is so selective when deciding between new jersey high schools. 10/10 this is them backhandedly trying to hype themselves.
