greeks - it's showtime
by: cprWith accreditation results coming soon, KA recent loss of recognition fits in the larger trend of the diminishing presence of Greeks on LU campus. Their loss of recognition fits into the broader context of the LU community enforcing its standards for all Greek orgs on campus. If certain frats and sororitys can't make minimum expectations, whether by continuously facilitating alcohol abuse to the point of hospitalization, perpetuating bad behavior, or just not contributing to the greater Lehigh community, there is absolutely no reason they should exist on LU campus.

I think everyone has this mentality of the grass is greener on the other side - colleges without greek life would be better than they are now. but what people are forgetting is that colleges will lose so much with kicking off greek life. they will lose the livelihood of schools, they will lose a lot of philanthropic opportunities brought about by greek life, they will lose the student's ability to make a large college campus smaller with the use of greek organizations. not every single chapter is like beta at penn state and you must know that before generalizing all greeks as murderers and alcoholics. most Greeks are here for more than just a party outlet, so please stop assuming that is all they want.

Greeks should have a reconstitution plan for disassociating from Nationals and LU for when the day comes. Chapter/mrmber lives will be so much better under a secret society or underground fraternity scenario.
Let the admin program parties for LU. Let LU PD hunt down underclassman buying beers with fake ids. We need to party far away from campus and Uber or better sleep over. We will have smaller further off campus parties under the radar with no social media signature.
Don't make it easy for the geeds. Right now we are obvious targets.

It should be noted that KA was chartered at Lehigh in 1894. That’s 124 years of continued existent, gone because the current undergraduate brothers couldn’t get it together and change. Too much of fraternity life has become dependent on hosting parties, and the real value and meaning is lost. I’m sure there are a lot of unhappy alumni right now, but before you blame the University, read through their accreditation report. It’s a fair assessment of the chapter’s unwillingness to change their culture. This isn’t the 1980s anymore, actions have consequences and they’re learning this the hard way now.
