14-8-2 potential houses to visit
by: BeckWhat is the likelihood of a pnm getting invites to 14 houses, then 8 the next round?
#1by: Not likely
The majority of pnm's will not have anywhere near a full card. The first round cuts can be severe; the pnm's who are already known to active members from prior connections have a better chance at getting past that first round. Pnm's want to say that this isn't fair, but it actually is reasonable in any selection process that a person already known and liked is preferred over a complete stranger. Sororities are social clubs after all and when members know girls from high school or home town they are going to want to get those girls. But connections aren't everything and plenty of great pnm's don't have them.
The sororities will have already ranked the pnm's for round 2 invitations well in advance. So many pnm's think that they rank their houses at orientation and that will determine where they go for round 2, but that's not the case. Pnm's ranks of the sororities are not considered by the sororities at any round, they don't even see them.
Starting round 2, how you vibe with the members you talk to in person is what counts, but the second round cuts tend to follow the same pattern, so if you get 7 houses back for round 2 you are likely to get 3 or 4 back for round 3. Most pnm's do get 2 pref houses; if you only get one pref house back you are guaranteed a bid from them if you want it.
Remember that every sorority is going to be given a hard number of how many they can invite back each round based on a percentage of the number of pnm's in the process. When you get cut it's not because you were judged as not worthy. That's not how sororities conduct membership selection, they have nothing against you and are not focused on finding reasons to reject anyone. There are plenty of girls they want to have back but their numbers don't allow it and the members get upset about this too. If you had great conversations and still get cut, just know that the actives you talked to are upset about it too, and that it is numbers based.
