legacies

I'm going to rush in the fall and I'm making my resume. My family has a pretty deep history in one sorority, would that be a beneficial thing to add, or would it end up hurting me in the long run if I don't connect with that house? Are legacies even relevant anymore?

It is tricky, because you never want to alienate the other sororities. That said, you do want to connect. I personally would include it, but I wouldn't make a BIG deal about it. You want to keep your options open.

Whenever you registrar for rush, it will ask you all of your legacies/ connections. Weather you have recs or not you MUST list these on your registration for those houses to see that you are a leg/family member. YES other houses will see this but if you let the houses you are interested in know that you like their house, it won't hurt you. Do not put it on your resume.

As for relevancy goes, it varies by house. For instance, Theta does not consider them at all, but on the other hand zeta and axo both take them pretty seriously.

A legacy is like a two sided knife. If your legacy house is one you feel you belong in once you go through a couple of days of recruitment then it is a helpful tool. Legacies are always invited back for a second day regardless. If your legacy house isn't the right fit it can leave others with the perception you will not be as interested in their group. You need to thread lightly and let other groups know of your interest without appearing to talk bad about your legacy. Houses are different on every campus and change from year to year with revolving memberships. That is why all girls need to come in with an open mind. You can't know where you will be most comfortable until you visit all groups.

This is such a helpful answer. A legacy is a gift.

When you register and enter your legacy information only your legacy house will see that information. It explains it on the registration page.

A legacy is a gift that not every girl has. You have loved ones who can help prepare you for the recruitment process and you are guaranteed to be invited back for the second day to your legacy house which gives you an advantage. Just know that your legacy house may not be the right fit for you. Be grateful for your gift but remain open minded about every group.

They guarantee you a second invite back which is relevant because you get a pass to sell yourself and learn the house a second time. Remember your legacy is a gift not everyone has so appreciate it

You do have to list all your legacies as part of the application process. It is also true that you will at minimum receive a second invite. Beyond that it varies from chapter to chapter and how strong the candidates are. Some houses could fill an entire pledge class with legacies so it debatable how much of a impact they make. It's still a advantage not everyone has though.

Having a legacy will not hurt your chances with another group unless you give off the vibe that that is the house you want. There are many pluses to legacies.
