alpha phi
by: PNMI really do not understand all of the hate going on towards Alpha Phi because of the Iowa video. Iowa is so far away. The SEC chapters of Alpha Phi have all colonized well. I know a lot of girls who are considering Alpha Phi and it makes me sad to hear them say not anymore because they would be embarrassed to wear those letters. I don't understand how people can judge a whole chapter before it has even started yet.

I'm an active in an already established sorority. We were all excited about alpha phis colony this year, but now I don't know anymore. This is the south and even though we have progressed with the times, we still like to think of ourselves as ladies. And the alpha phis at Iowa are far from being ladies.
I don't think it would have been as bad as if was if they hadn't mocked our beloved hotty toddy chant!
Think about this. The instructors and staff already are anti greek. Many of them scheduling tests and papers due during rush week. We see them every day rolling their eyes at us. Last thing we need is a group coming onto campus with the potential to bring down the entire Greek system!

Not sacred of alpha phi! Get over yourself! There was no need to post twice!
You forget that the ole miss student body consists of 50% oos students, right? We have ALL heard of ole miss in our home states and we have all associated the hotty toddy chant with ole miss!
Obviously you have a hard on for alpha phi. To the point you insult our beloved university. Perhaps YOU and others like you with your "so what" attitude is why we don't want alpha phi here!

Honestly, I would be embarrassed if that was my sorority seen in videos like Iowa's. National media attention is never good.
My parents will be paying my dues. They have already voiced concern over whether or not ole miss sorority girls act like this. My mom has already said she will be disappointed if I drop out of recruitment to colonize with alpha phi.
#5 by: Okay let's break it down
In my sorority, we will cut girls for having a (one) beer in a social media picture! We will cut girls who post too many pictures of themselves in revealing outfits. We will cut girls with wild reputations.
Rush at Ole Miss is cut throat!
This video shows exactly the type of girl we will cut.
Why would we be accepting of a sorority colonizing on our campus when their chapters exhibit this type of behavior? We work really, really hard maintaining our reputations, grades, philanthropy involvement, campus involvement, etc. ALL OUR SORORITIES DO! If a video like this were to expose an Ole Miss sorority, the entire greek system would hurt. Probably not collapse, but certainly suffer!
While I understand that every chapter is different, this one does not instill confidence in many of us.

I think the issue is a mismatch of campus cultures between Ole Miss / Iowa / Alabama and maybe a misunderstanding about the chat that comes from relying on google as a primary source of info. 17-20 year old don't anyways make the best decisions. These mistakes just happened to get a lot of publicity.
Apparently the Alpha Phi version of the “Heighty Teighty” chant (rhymes better with 'almighty') has been used for at least 20 years by chapters all over the country (when they had no SEC chapters, and little presence in the South at all). So while it is an unfortunate coincidence that it appeared in that video, the chant has nothing to do with Ole Miss.
I heard that even though all the groups at Iowa have similar chants, the Iowa chapter was suspended for the unPanhellenic / unbecoming nature of the video. So perhaps the incident will help change overall sorority culture at Iowa for the better?
I doubt the Iowa video would have gotten any attention if it had not been for the Alabama video, which really only got attention because of the football player being in it. Check out the UA Zeta recruitment video on you tube (if it hasn't been pulled already) it is very similar, minus the football player and production value.
If you think about it, any national organization will have difficulty keeping tabs on everything their members are doing. If there are 100+ members of a chapter on average and 150+ chapters, trying to monitor 150,000 college-aged women would be next to impossible

Look at what the old guard does here at Ole Miss - total online defamation to anyone new - anyone who they perceive as a threat to their decades old domination.
No tolerance at all. No kindness. Thread.....after thread....after thread of vitriole....and they hold themselves in judgement of others?
Pnms are smarter than this. They know what you old guard are doing......
It will be really interesting to see how many women drop out of recruitment to try something else.

If one organization can bring down a system that's been in place for over 100 years then it must be pretty fragile. People (bottom tier girls) are hating on alpha phi because they are threatened by them. Alpha phi has done well at other SEC schools and there's no reason they shouldn't do well here, as long as people let them. There is room in the ole miss Greek system for plenty more houses, especially with so many girls going through rush this year. Leave alpha phi alone and let them be another great house in the Ole Miss Greek system, I promise it won't kill you.
