do any of you have trouble balancing everything?

I suggest you get as far ahead in your classes as possible before rush!
During rush, which this year will be the week before mid terms, is impossibly hard! You go to classes in the morning and afternoon, rush at night. Homework is impossible with all the emotions and excitement of rush.
So many teachers are anti-greek and will purposefully schedule tests and quizzes and papers this week!
Immediately after rush week, your schedule becomes impossibly full! You will be having pledge meetings, theta encore practice (all new pledge classes participate in learning a dance), philanthropy activities (we all raise a ton of money), pledge retreats, swaps (every week), date parties (less often than swaps), small group activities (to help you get to know your pledge class), pledge bible studies (not mandatory), etc. You will have a very full schedule.
In the spring things quiet down A LOT! There are not as many swaps, and you are no longer a pledge. There will still be date parties, and philanthropy activities, and Derby Days to practice for (another dance), various intramural activities, an occasional swap, and fraternity formals (always a blast in New Orleans).
If you are not good at juggling school with social life, you may have a problem! You might want to think twice about going greek if you're not disciplined.

That's the ten million dollar question!
Some say that they used to call ole miss "u-haul university" because of all the girls who dropped out after not receiving the bid they wanted. After rush, dad showed up with a u-haul and moved their precious daughters to another school where rush wasn't so competitive.
They said that by moving rush, it stopped girls from dropping out because they were able to make friends before rush started.
Another reason is because they use the dorms for orientation and summer school and various youth camps. The dorms are not ready to be moved into before classes start the way most other universities do it.

We all know Kappa doesn't have the highest GPA on campus, and that's why they wont take any grade risk. They don't need girls to make their chapter GPA lower. But, that's beside the point. No sorority wants to take grade risk, but if they have a higher chapter GPA, they are more likely to be able to take a grade risk. Like last year, Kappa cut girls after first round who didn't have a 3.3 GPA. But I know a girl who had a 2.7 GPA and she got a bid to a top sorority. Kappa's GPA has been struggling the past few years, but after their most recent pledge class it has gotten better, so who knows if they will still keep their 3.3 rule. But, they certainly cant afford a grade risk, where as Chi O or DG could def take a few and still be okay.
