by: nervoustransferWill more girls get dropped this year out of recruitment for alpha phi? I have a great grades, heavily involved, and great recs. Do you think I have a shot ay any of the houses!? I don't care about tiers.... I don't want to colonize :(

Just another perspective here.. You stated your grades and resume should get you into an established house. In a perfect world, they would. I'm gonna be straight with you, though. It's tougher as an upperclassman. Also, I had a 3.85, a mile long resumé full of leadership roles and community service, and definitely don't have the personality of a rock; however, I'm the first person in my family to go Greek. I had recs for every house except Kappa and Pi Phi. I really enjoyed rush! It's a great experience to meet people and get to see the houses. I was invited back to 3 houses for skit and one for pref. I dropped voluntarily to pursue ADPi. It was hands down the best decision I've ever made in my life! I love my sisters so much; I met my boyfriend through ADPi; I've met our international president on several occasions and had the opportunity to actually BUILD a chapter from the ground up- how cool is that? Girls I've been so blessed to call my sisters from all over the country are jealous of the honor that founding your chapter is. I wear my Charter Member badge with so much pride and I love and believe in my chapter and my sisters. I'm so excited for our beautiful new house, too! Alpha Phi is a great national sorority. Coming into recruitment, I never thought colonizing would be for me, but I'm so so glad it was. Just keep an open mind. Accept a bid where you feel wanted, comfortable, happiest, and connect with actives and their philanthropy. RMHC is so special to me!

The same girls that established sororities might drop. A new colony might be a little more lenient on grades and be more willing to take girls other than freshman during the colonization process, but they will NOT be taking all the girls interested in the colonization.

I am an ADPi. I had a 2.6 gpa coming into ole miss and failed 2 of my 3 jump start classes. I had friends in every sorority and pre-gamed with several sororities prior to rush. Tons of connections and lots and lots of recs and support letters. I basically had everything going for me except grades.
I was dropped from every house after skit. I decided to try for ADPi. I was shocked when I got a bid! My pledge sisters are some of the weirdest girls on campus! Total tattooed pot smoking weird girls! My pledge class is completely divided by girls who love ADPi and those who don't do anything except show up to chapter and then usually hungover or high. I'm not kidding.
We haven't moved into our house yet, so my experiences have been disappointing to put it mildly.
I go home most weekend and when I do stay in town, I hang out with girls in other sororities. I do have a small handful of friends in ADPi, but not super close ones.
Tons of my pledge sisters have dropped and I probably will to.
ADPi has a lot more work to do before they will be good. Alpha phi will struggle too!
Just being honest!

Has adpi gotten slightly better pledge classes since colonization? And do you think you could have gotten into another sorority if you had better grades?
I feel like its hard to say who is gonna get a bid on here because all the girls are different and every situation is different and can make your rush different (sometimes)

I think every PNM needs to read this! Being a founding member of a new chapter on campus is most definitely not for everyone. But it is an amazing and rewarding experience! You aren't joining a chapter that has already been established for many years. You are, like she said, building this brand new chapter from the ground up! Is it up to you and your other founding sisters to create a strong sisterhood and to take the lead and start giving this chapter the aspects it needs to be a strong chapter. Y'all will be a huge part of the reason of whether this chapter sinks or swims. Alpha Phi has been getting stronger in the south in recent years. Most of their chapters down here are rather new, so they may not all be "top" chapters, because it normally takes decades upon decades to get that strong. But it seems that they are all doing very well, and I think Alpha Phi will do very well here just as ADPi has! If the opportunity arises for you to possibly join Alpha Phi this year, take it and run with it. It will be a lot of hard work, but won't it be so worth it when you come back in 50 years are see how well it's doing? You would be able to say that you are one of the people responsible for how well this chapter is doing (or how bad it is doing). So if you get dropped by all the houses during recruitment, or if it just doesn't go your way and you want to do something different, I encourage you to heavily consider Alpha Phi!
