I know this has been asked a million times, but I decided I would just ask for myself. If you have a yellow zone GPA, but you do have great recs, letters of support, lots of extra curriculars, and you know a few girls currently in sororities at Ole Miss, does the GPA thing totally ruin me?

In the yellow zone you will be cut from 5 or 6 houses right off the bat. The only exceptions would be if the alumni advisor really likes you for some reason and feels you could be of value to the sorority.

We as actives vote yes or no. It is the alumni advisors along with our rush team who determine the order of the lists.

There's a lot of factors that go into this answer. Things like If you're a legacy in a sorority, how close are you with the girls you know, and just your true personality in general. Be yourself! If you are a sweet, cute, and fun girl you'll end up where you're supposed to be I promise!

Some sororities don't have their actives vote on girls until later on (like philanthropy/skit round). We would have you on a list that is in order by a lot of factors, GPA being one of the big factors.
You're GPA is huge. We don't like grade risks. And define yellow zone. Most sororities raised their minimum grade standards to 2.85 or even 3.0. And that's minimum, it does not mean you're safe or will get invited back. Connections might help you though if the actives vote on girls early on because the first girls we drop are the grade risks. Sorry. Ole Miss has a competitive rush and it's only getting more competitive. 1,800 girls are coming in and we all want the girls that will improve our chapter.

Yes, you might have a more disappointing rush than if you weren't a grade risk, but there's always ADPi and Alpha Phi which are lovely and will be glad to take you if you're too far in the yellow zone.

I'm not far in the yellow zone. My high school GPA is 2.9

I had a friend of mine who went into rush with a 2..9.

She got a bid from pi phi.

not bad at all. I would say you have a chance at almost all the chapters with that GPA

A 2.9 will hurt you.

Your options will be limited, but not impossible!

Keep an open mind and be happy for any invites you may receive! You will receive some, they just might lot be from your favorites.

With a 2.9, and no other serious blemish, you should receive a bid (somewhere)

I just so happen to be in the same situation, if I'm a legacy in a sorority does that change anything assuming I really like my legacy sorority?

Depends if you are a regular legacy or an in-house legacy. And it will also depend on which house you are a legacy to.

I've seen a chi o regular legacy get a bid with a 2.6, and I've seen a kappa in-house legacy with a 2.9 get cut.

Are you meaning to say chapter legacy instead of in house legacy? Like are you actually talking about girls who have a sister who is currently active in a sorority at Ole Miss (in house), or are you talking about girls whose mom/sister/grandmother were in an Ole Miss sorority in the past (chapter)? I saw you say in house legacy on another thread too and I think you were talking about chapter legacies! Correct me if I'm wrong but I just want to make sure everyone understands what you're saying!

It won't totally ruin you, but your options will be limited.

There are sororities that will automatically drop grade risks after the first round, UNLESS you have connections in the houses and those girls go to bat for you.

In my sorority if we are supporting a girl and putting posters up with her pictures on them, and telling all our friends and alumni about her, she will usually get invited back to skit. After skit, those without the grades end up at the bottom of the lists, our return rates will determine if she moves up the list and gets an invite back. (totally out of our hands)
